I don't think Americans are becoming increasingly intolerant of those who think differently. This has ALWAYS been the norm in America. Intolerance to anyone different from them has always been the case in America. Look at the Civil War. Look to Jim Crow. Look to the Nativist Know-Nothing Party. Look to things like "No Irish Need Apply". Intolerance and people being uncivil to each other has been the norm throughout American history. Look at the 1960s. America has always been like this from day one.

I took the thread (and many of the responses, at least those I read) as relative to people who hate others/groups of people (and not so much those who hate America). I think 'hating' where one lives/one's own life is another matter entirely (though agree there's a connection to hatred/bigotry as well - as is a lack of education). When one has been confined to one area their entire life, they certainly don't understand diversity, yet alone acceptance.

You're placing too much importance on the mode of transmission rather than the hatred in and of itself (or change, for that matter). Social media is nothing more than nonsense/entertainment at the end of the day; you're giving it too much power i.e. don't watch/participate if it's not your thing, particularly since people jump in with fake accounts all the time (as the echo chamber you mention), either as a way to troll or give an 'atta boy' to a 'friend' to validate their own opinion - or to make it appear as though there's a bandwagon to jump on. There's a grade-school mentality of 'you're in' (if you think as I do) or 'you're out' which is at the core of hatred whether speaking to one individual or an entire state/city i.e. California/SF. Bottom line, intelligent people see (far) beyond the nonsense (and think for themselves) while people who hate their own lives tend to 'feed off of' each other/social media.

That said, lack of education/acceptance resulting in hatred/bigotry/closed-mindedness could be (the country's undoing) - particularly since the acceleration of globalization.

I believe it may partially be due to US citizen’s mass infatuation with social media and news networks that are more opinion pieces looking for high ratings (aka money) than getting out facts and actual news. This all divides us even more.

Let’s try to have a civil conversation here. No need to rant about the left or right. No need for name calling.

Why is there so much hate in the USA? What is causing it?
It is my belief that there is so much hate because the people that immigrated fr Europe were low class and were forced to leave. Many of them were either felons or were of a different religion. Once those people came over here, they decided to stick it to everyone else. This is just reinforced over the years and u now have the situation that we have today.

There is very little immigration from Europe today and many of them who migrated long ago had skills, were good people and assimilated into our society.

Most "immigration" today is from Latin America and they have no skills or education and are poor and those who defy our immigration laws are sticking it to the rest of us. They are job stealing, resource and tax stealing parasites and refuse to assimilate into our society. They come from a backwards culture and from corrupt countries so law breaking means nothing to them.

It has nothing to do with hatred but objection to their illegal presence in our country and the costs they impose on the American people.

We have enough of our own poor and needy (but most Americans are not) so we sure don't need to import more especially those who come here illegally.

Once again, anchor babies are not citizens according to the wording of the 14th Amendment it's merely been by PC policy that they have been deemed so. At any rate, if their parents weren't immigration law breakers there would be no anchor babies for us to support.

That's not true. I work everyday and have no problem with redistribution as long as I can benefit from it as well.

Also concepts such as "gay rights" coming on strong with their rights to have gender changes done on the tax payers dollars, as if being a "freak" is a good thing (NOT!).

Then there are the endless funds being taken to support the millions of illegals that have NO business gaining ANY benefits being here. Now they think we're obligated to fund their children, child care, healthcare and housing.........NOT!

The list is endless but those are two very irritating examples of today's society movements that are a bunch of crap. The sick liberals all trying to destroy those things that this country has always been and thrived upon is an abomination. There you have it.
Their children are American citizens and are entitled to benefits.

I guess I just sit down and listen to who is spewing hate, and who is spewing tolerance.

I have no problem with the Christian right, until they think we should all be following their rules. I have no problem with trans, gays or queers unless they start telling me who I should be attracted to.

I could care less who I share a bathroom with. I could care less who reads a book to my child. I could care less what chromosomes parents have, as long as they are good parents.

I could care less if you are Catholic or Muslim, unless you feel your religion should impact MY life.

No one has done as much as he did for America. Personally, he isn't someone I would have in my circle of friends, but I didn't vote for him to pander to the CCP, I want him to continue to represent Americans with intelligence.

It is sickening to think about how the voting machines were tampered with - my gosh most 6th graders could write a computer program to double count the wrong ballots. If the Supreme Court doesn't wake up, they too will suffer the consequence when they are broken up and no longer have their life long cushion.

Sadly, the swamp is constipated and if they get away with it America will be lost.
6th graders arnt writing programs...smh and no one is breaking up the supreme court.
