If the amateur investors are short selling meaning they are borrowing the stock, dont they lose money if the stock goes up. If anything Robinhood saved the little guy.

can you short on RH?
btw I heard borrowing fees to short GME are over 80%
Unfortunately, they will lose in the end because they won't get out in time. Stock today has fluctuated between around $500 to just below $300. Someone is going to get caught holding the bag.
Oh nevermind it is the opposite. Its the big whigs that are borrowing the stock. But I doubt they are borrowing from the amateur investor. I doubt the amateur investor is going to buying or selling the majority of the shorted shares as it rises or falls.

The amateur little guys aren't short selling. They are buying the stock and hoping short sellers will have to buy their borrowed stock back to return it to the lender causing the price of the stock to go up or remain high. Robinhood had blocked the little guys buying of the stock.

I was confused, I thought it was the amateur investor shorting the stock. And if the borrowing fees are that high, I doubt any amateur investor can short much.
As it is the other way around, any significant amount of shares will be borrowed from another institutional investor. Any buying and selling after that point whether prices goes up or down will also be done by institutional investors. Unless this amateur investor is already a millionaire, I dont see the point.

Yes I figured that out just now.
But still, how much volume, and at how high a price can an amateur transact with in order to actually manipulate the market?
Well supposedly there are many maybe a few million amateurs acting in concert buying and raising the price.
But then each amateur gains less and less as more jump in as time flies along with the rise in price.
Well, if this situation does show anything is that is yes the market are rigged but by the big players or the house. The house always wins as they say.
