You could ask the same about the DNC. I think it's to a lesser extent but it's for the same reason.

The GOP prior to Trump really needed some fresh new ideas. The turn American into a theocracy of the Pat Robinson era and the moral majority, well, that wasn't working. They needed something new and exciting. Q Babble with a heavy dose of white nationalism was that something new. By no means does everyone who votes Republican buy into it but it needed that injection of energy. Same way the DNC needs the injection of energy of defund the police and whatnot. Not everyone who votes Democrat buys into it, but the energy is useful. It's a bit like playing with fire though. The riots that followed George Floyd and Trump's merry band of insurrectionists both ended causing some headaches.

Why? Because the MSM tells you so, therefore it must be true. The telescreen is the pulpit for the hate filled left. If telescreens say stay home, cower in fear and wait for big brother to tell you it's safe to leave your house, the hate filled left obeys. If the telescreen tells you their are white supremacists around every corner and behind every tree, the hate filled left believes it. If the telescreen tells you the the "GOP has so many extremist nuts in congress" it must be true. Hope that answers the OP's question.

Democrats ARE living in an alternate reality where socialists and kooky conspiracy theorists (rape party hoax, Russia hoax, Charlotteville hoax, ....) have taken over the Democratic Party. Democrats can't see it because they have been brainwashed by the MSM and their TDS has destroyed their critical thinking skills. They no longer question what their media masters tell them. And then they repeat it, exposing themselves to ridicule for their efforts that make them look like the Jeep driver in Jumanji.

I seem to recall a left wing extremist opening fire on the Repub baseball team, nearly killing Congressman Steve Scalise, wounding several others. A Bernie Bro he was.

Alexandria Occasional-Cortex and her low IQ Squad are the current crop of loony leftists.

There are nuts in every political party as there are in the general population.

Move along, nothing to see here.

That is exactly what Fox news does for the hate-filled right. They serve them what they crave. Lies that Trump actually won; paranoid fantasies about Democrats and fuels the culture war -rage that the right demands. The radical right needs all this to keep themselves worked up into a constant state of eternal victimhood - displayed on this forum 24/7.

Ahhh, the Murdoch family appreciates your tuning in. That way, they keep making money.

Here we are back to the Squad!

Fox news constantly tells you that they are very powerful and so you believe.

You may not agree with their every utterance, but they are sane.

Something that cannot be said for MTG.

Republicans being republicans. It is who they are. A tiger can not change its stripes. Marjorie Taylor Greene is the true representation of the GOP

Two out of 200+ is not the majority. The battle is between the conservatives/populists/intellectuals on one hand and the Washington Generals on the other. As always, the Washington Generals will lose.

"Groups"? Are productive citizens a group? Because that's the fringe "group" you're talking about. The country's most productive citizens should not be forced into the "fringes". We should be running the show since we're producing and paying for it.

Why does the GOP have so many extremist nuts in congress?

Because of the Republicans willingness over the past two generations to tolerate extremists in their midst, so long as they don't make waves too rough for the public to handle. Add to that the social conservatives admittedly justifiable concerns of the spread of Soviet-style Communism (especially religious conservatives, given the official atheism of the USSR) and they're willing to embrace anybody in a fight with the enemy. Also, there's small-government (but non-religious) conservatives' belief that freedom means the right to discriminate against "those kinds of people", plus presuming that traditional ways of sizing up a person's deservance of respect (or not) is perfectly fine the way it is and therefore doesn't need to change.

All this more or less invited the more extreme wings of the ideology to come into the party, and gradually take more and more leadership positions. Even the establishment Republicans embraced them more for political advantage, to have a loyal easy-to-fire-up base - obviously for political power purposes. During all this time, the establishment was willing to tolerate this, thinking the loudest most fervent base would be easy to manipulate. Unfortunately, it all blew up in their face and the lunatics took over the party.

Don't be surprised if the traditional republicans just say "Forget it! Time to just start a new political party", Perhaps even a few of the less liberal Democrats (Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema) would join such a party.
