Did they come here illegally? Big difference and you're wrong many if not most of those Europeans were carpenters and knew other trades also. They weren't illiterate! They did not leech off the government there was no welfare back then! Interesting that you had to mention race/skin though. It was a tell all.

Of course I do. But even taking that into account, the US still has plenty of land.

Germany has 83 million people crammed into an area about the size of Oregon and Washington, and yet it is still 1/3 forested and a very nice country. Meanwhile, Washington and Oregon combined have about 12 million. Plenty of room for more people. There are people who think the US could and even SHOULD strive for 1 billion people.

Yes I am sorry to tell you, many of them were indeed illiterate.

In 1880:

The literacy rate of Italy was 38.4%.
The literacy rate of France was 72.8%.
The literacy rate of Germany was 92.0%.
The literacy rate of Spain was 31.4%.
The literacy rate of the UK was 82.7%
Though it's not listed, you can be sure Ireland's was probably similar to Italy's or, at best, France's.

By comparison the US was 83.0%.

The best nation back then was more illiterate than Mexico is now.

“Crammed” being the operative word.

If all the immigrants went home tomorrow, we’d be in a pickle. If there was no work for them, they would not keep coming
So, actually its these specific companies/industries, that are mostly to blame for this problem?!! Certainly seems that way to me!

Literacy rate by country
Mexico - 95.40%
Guatemala - 81.50%
Honduras - 87.20%
El Salvador - 88.50%

Even as recently as 1981 the literacy rate in Italy was 96.5%, which is little different from Mexico's current rate.
My nephews wife is a educated woman from Mexico and came here legally and is now a American citizen.

This was already covered in post 119. We DO NOT have jobs for them. Even legal immigrants are displacing low skill native born workers. Read the report I linked to in post 119 and you will see that "Jobs American's won't do" line is absolute nonsense. So is the idea that illegal aliens are somehow vital to our economy. They aren't. They could all leave tomorrow and we would be much better off than the disaster unfolding now.
