Canada's socialist medicine is not doing the best job with the pandemic.
We are doing a hell of a lot better than the US...Check deaths per million for each country. Actually by more than a factor of ten...Deaths per million...USA 6,668....Canada 608. As of March 30th.
We have similar system over here. In the US, if someone finds out they have a serious illness the bill can come out to 7 figures. You blame liberals but it's the right-wingers who want to keep this insane system where something unforeseen and no fault of the citizen can cost them their entire fortune and more.
But a $3,458 hotel bill is where you draw the line??
The article definitely implies she got to Portugal and then tried to book and it was cumbersome and blah blah -- which it isn't....and then she tried to get compassionate and then was STUCK paying......blah blah.
The whole story ignores that she knowingly went to Portugal for a week for a funeral and then got screwed over by her poor planning.
Be clear -- this is not a protest against the policy -- it's that she had to pay so much for it.
Look the conservative Premier of Ontario is shutting down the province again for a month.
This event is less about the woman protesting the restrictions and more because she got stuck with a bill because she didn't plan ahead because she was hoping to get an exception to the rule ---
This woman works for the govt. in Ontario. She was hoping she could talk her way out of abiding by the rules for the masses.
She didn't weigh the cons if it didn't go her way. If she had booked her return hotel when she booked her flight she might have been able to get 250/night and only book for one night.
As I said -- i don't like the rule but I'm not going to try and break it, end up incurring financial costs and inconvenience because I didn't want to follow the rule and then run to the press crying that I should be exempt form the rule.
I'm not arguing that Canada hasn't given as many shots but it all depends on a number of things.
My friends in Canada have gotten their first dose.
Yes but the number is shots is the critical component....when we were giving shots here in Arizona to 65 and older (including them), their Province was only giving shots to 86 and older.

Number of shots is critical....actuall the rate per capita would be critical
Anecdotal but I'm 61 and my peers in Canada in the same age range are getting their first dose at the same time.
And the Canadians in Florida who got the shot bumped Floridians for that shot.......there's a price for everything.

I'm just glad they haven't thought of giving all of our shots to non-Americans yet. Not only Canadians but Snowbirds from Minnesota and elsewhere are getting shots ahead of other Arizonans, is that right....I'm not sure.
I'm just glad the age of getting a shot here is 21 years younger than what I would have to be in Canada at the same time period as was the case with our friends.
