It seems you wanted to rant about insurance and consider it harassment, but in reality it was just unsupported finger pointing.

Again, it's more price and quality regulated than almost any other product you buy. If you don't like the reasons for the increases perhaps blame those instead.

Definitely has to be Florida. The state ran a gross misinformation campaign years ago and poisoned the waters with anti-science and those rates ARE a hard science.

Very few people are excited about unsolicited cold calling. Not much you can do about it. I've reported a few Realtors to the Do Not Call list for unsolicited, repeat text and phone calls. Not much else I can do about it besides leave a nasty review on Yelp, Google which I've also done. It's one thing to get the occasional junk mailer from the "We Buy Crappy Houses" people now and again. It's another when you're getting five texts or phone calls a day. Again, that's not most Realtors and that's actually fairly new behavior in my experience. It's really only been the last year where I've experienced licensed Realtors resorting to robocalls and text messages. Just my two cents but they need to do a better job policing themselves. Nobody likes getting robocalled/texted three times a day for weeks on end.
if you're on a Do Not Call list, any Realtor or licensed real estate agent (slight difference) will get in trouble for harassing you.

If you get the name of anybody, tell them to stop calling you, and they continue ... the system is there to help you, not them.

As to all the phone calls, for ANYBODY - if you don't recognize the #, then don't answer (assuming you're not on a DNC list).

I think that isn't a bad thing, as long as it is fairly applied.

I've heard of neighbors putting collections together to help a neighbor in need to fix their property, and it helps the neighborhood and their property values too. That is rare of course.
a. But $25K? Other than current building supply $$, that's a lot of work to a small ramshackle house.

b. What would you do as to the homeowners "obligation" to pay that back? Seems reasonable to me to put a lien at $25K on their home, so whenever ownership changes, there's a method for the taxpayers to recoup, and even reinvest that $$ in other old folks places. Maybe there's some depreciated forgiveness, though that's unfair to the homeowner's benefit.

My parents get the flyers all of the time to sell their homes. Wouldn't doubt at all that it is some kind of campaign backed by a gigantic investor like Blackrock who is hoarding gigantic numbers of homes.

But cancelling insurance? That's a new low. Haven't heard or seen evidence of that one in our area yet.

People should not be forced from their homes.

I'm more bothered by neighbors and companies giving poor people a hard time than buyers making offers. Some people don't believe homeowners can be poor, lol. If they are low income they are poor. If they can't keep up with inflation on a fixed income and struggle with bills they are poor. They still need a roof over their heads and it is their house.
so they should be allowed to have unsafe living conditions?

This is not the first time there has been a hot market but behavior is worse this time and insurance rules are getting tighter. I'm trying very hard to help a client to secure insurance without forcing her to spend thousands she doesn't have in unnecessary upgrades. I would like to see the states which are lax in insurance regulation being held responsible for this. The more they can get away with the more they will do.
well, again, some facts and figures would help. And if she shouldn't have to make unnamed "unnecessary upgrades", then why should any of us?

If you honestly believe the insurance companies are "in on this", then you'll have to prove your case.

Facts and figures, please.

no, everything IS a link. Link us to your organization. Give us a local news story - cause we all know the local news loves this stuff. Oh, wait a forum - presumably anonymous? Even better for you. Link away.

You can’t blame them for trying. It’s not exactly harassment. And super easy to ignore.

there's trespassing (coming on your property) and there's criminal - putting your foot in somebody's door. Call the cops already.
