Somehow I don't think my tax return is as important to important people as Mr. Trump's.....
Only because you haven’t thought this through. What if you suddenly find yourself on the outs and they need a reason to look into your records? Think it can’t happen? Look at all the lives ruined in the last year just because they got on the wrong side of someone. They aren’t necessarily all conservatives either. Just off the top of my head I can think of several liberals who were canceled or attempted to be canceled.
Amy Cooper, lady in Central Park who called the cops on Christian Cooper
Donald McNeil, NYT journalist who said a racial slur when asking a student what she said to get in trouble
Alexi McCammon, Teen Vogue Editor for mean tweets as a teenager
Kevin Hart lost gig at Oscars for past comedy routines
List could go on and on. You may think your politics protects you but no one is safe if they decide you need to go.
This can now happen to any American.. yup...pure communist tactics and the lefties dumb party is fine with it.. how truly dumb they really are.. no boundaries , a dictatorship is now in progress.
Yes Congress gave itself this power and responsibility before Trump came along. Congress makes the rules. It has zero to do with Communism.

Section 6103(f)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) reads:
Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary [of the Treasury] shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.
Sounds to me like a lot of people on this thread actually approve of rich people cheating on their taxes.
If he cheated they would have already charged him with it. It’s not like the Treasury Dept. didn’t already have these records. They just want to use it as propaganda against him even though it’s probably routine stuff that all rich people have on taxes.

IRS has been severely understaffed for years. Audits have been down for a long time.
Years ago they used to say that the IRS was the only government agency that brought in more money then it cost to run the agency. That was mostly from monies they brought in from auditing tax cheats.
