I will admit that I jumped to the conclusion that it was because of a transfer from a men’s prison. But part of the leap is due to having had a conversation with someone who works in the women’s correctional facility in Newark who told me the whole situation with ‘male’ transfers is “a huge mess”.
She says the female prisoners want her to do something for them, as their advocate. But as she explained to them, she’s not their advocate, she’s only there to advise the prison on anything that is going on with the prison policies that isn’t legal.
And it's certainly possible.
Given a system that has allowed inmates to assault each other and has allowed male guards to assault female prisoners forever...that they don't vet transfers that claim to be trans properly is not a stretch, at all.
I just don't believe for a second that transphobic people really care about the prisoners. They care about the harm they can do to all trans people. If they cared about the prisoners they'd care about the abuses they've been subject to forever, long before trans people were transfered.
This has been tried. It has gone very very badly. How many women have to be raped before we cut the crap and stop trying to do this??
Did YOU read the whole article? Per your second link:
"Two transgender inmates who were housed in men’s prisons, Strawberry Hampton and Janiah Monroe, have sued IDOC separately in recent years, demanding they be moved to Logan because they’d allegedly been the target of sexual harassment and abuse from male inmates and prison employees. Alan Mills, who leads the Uptown People’s Law Center – a Chicago-based legal group, which has represented both Hampton and Monroe – confirmed Monroe is the inmate who is being accused in this case, though he was dismissive of the allegations against her."
There is more to THAT story, that we don't know about. Someone is trying to make Janiah Monroe shut up.
I didn't even look at the UK link, since we're talking about California, in the USA.
According to Bakersfield.com, "two of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, both incarcerated women, allege they were sexually assaulted by inmates who identify as transgender or gender nonbinary," and that "the lawsuit said that one of the alleged assaults occurred after the law went into effect, while the other alleged assault does not specify when it occurred."
What about people who self-identify as cocker spaniels?
