At the end of the day, withdrawing from Afghanistan was the right thing to do. Didn't make sense to stay there....20 yrs is way over due. Should've just left after killing Bin_Laden. Good article.
Just in... Wheres Biden hiden? This weak administration literally is begging the taliban to let them evacuate at this point. This is a HUGE disgrace to all the souls lost in the Afghan war, and shows how weak we are with the current leadership of our country .
The only politician that made the right decision in the last 40 years was H.W. Bush. This withdrawal was not well planned out and they had 20 years to prepare. Trump also wanted to pull out and this could easily have happened on his watch.
We all knew this was going to be ugly no matter how it was done, is a slow train wreck better than one that is rapid. Vietnam, Iraq all misguided, time to take a close look at our military decisions.
At least we had valid reasons for being there. The 9/11 attacks are reason enough.
If Trump had done what Biden's done, he would have deserved all the criticism as well, and it would have been at least as vicious, and deservedly so.
It is laughable for anyone to think Trump being president would have made a difference. The sad truth is that the US was never going to be able to stabilize Afghanistan with a democratic government for an extended period of time. Only a much stronger and enlarged military presence for far more years could avoid the inevitable. How many more American lives would be lost doing that? Were 20 years and thousands of deaths not enough to make this clear?
Funny...I thought conservatives were crying to get out of Afghanistan. Now that we are, they are whining about a weak administration. Do you actually have a clue what you want other than talk crap about Biden?
During a meeting with Taliban's co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who heads the group's political committee, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the Taliban as an important military and political force in Afghanistan, and said he expected the Taliban to play an important role in the country's "peace, reconciliation and reconstruction process," according to China's Foreign Ministry.
...
During Wednesday's meeting, Wang referred to Afghanistan as China's largest neighbor, and emphasized the fate of the country should be "in the hands of the Afghan people."
Wang said the withdrawal of American and NATO troops from Afghanistan under US President Joe Biden marked the "failure of the US' policy towards Afghanistan," as well as an opportunity for the country to stabilize and develop.
"(China) respects Afghanistan's sovereign independence and territorial integrity, (and) always insists on non-interference in Afghanistan's internal affairs," Wang said.
Anyone believe the underlined? Yeah... me neither.
Hah, well they can say they respect sovereignty and non interference a hell of a lot more than we can after a nearly 20 year occupation and sock puppet government. Not too optimistic about this whole stability and development thing under the Taliban, but the bar is pretty low so maybe they can do better.
