And I guarantee that 99.999% of them can't properly articulate what is "Socialism" and what is "Capitalism".
Hint: "Socialism" is not about "free stuff" and has never been.
They need to spend a year in Cuba, Venezuela, or China where those who rule live large off the sweat and labor of those they rule over.

Pure socialism and pure capitalism have been proven both to be complete failures. The US at the moment is seeing the intense failures capitalism can cause.

Something someone said to me recently:

"in the past 30 years I've moved from being a moderate Democrat to a flaming, left wing socialist without changing a single viewpoint or position".

I think that's a relevant description of our country's viewpoint of socialism vs capitalism at the moment.

Most Democrats don't know the actual definition of socialism. See AOC.

Most want capitalism with a larger social safety net.

Weirdly, Reagan Republicans also now find themselves dismissed from the current edition of the GOP. Too lax on immigration.

Hmm.

Obama in 2011 would be a reactionary homophobe today.

Not really. In the early 90's, people overwhelmingly wanted a system where you weren't on the government dole for life, which is why Bill Clinton reluctantly signed welfare reform. Now, the goal is the opposite, to get more and more people on permanent benefits as in UBI. Just having a kid, whether you earn income or not will earn you a paycheck.
