Did you see them cheering at the CPAC meeting when it was announced that Biden hadn`t met his goal of 70% vaccinated by July 4th? Who is it that`s making it political? The pro-life crowd was cheering for more deaths.

I think a big part of the problem is that the process of scientific discovery doesn't translate well to public health policy.

No surprise. The American medical industry has been getting it wrong for decades with medical mistakes, unnecessary procedures, over/misprescribing drugs etc for decades.

With the ever changing virus and Pandemic, making broad medical recommendations are very difficult. Especially as national concerns and remedies may be very different from state, more local and/or with any one individual at any given time.

The scientists aren't getting it wrong, you are.

This is but one example of many where the experts have been grossly wrong. A year ago, we were told by scientists that the virus lived on surfaces for long periods of time. People were scared to open doors. My company installed foot openers at the doors so people could use their feet instead of hands to open doors. Lysol was impossible to come by and everyone was washing every surface before touching it. It was crazy. Only to find out that the scientists said that wasnt necessary after all.

My office had strict masking rules, strict social distancing requirements, supervised temperature checks before entry, and a monthly pledge we all had to sign where we had to promise to call in sick if we had any of the covid symptoms. This was all at the recommendation of the company epidemiologists and the CDC. Yet the virus spread right through the office. None of those measures that the experts recommended seemed to work at all.

Yet we are told we need to trust the science. We need to trust the experts. But they have been wrong more than they have been right. If anyone else was as wrong as much as they have been then nobody would trust them. If politicians were this wrong, they would be labeled a flip flopper or incompetent and voted out of office. If I were this wrong at work, I would quickly be fired.

You can say things change. Except that doesnt explain why they confidently touted the previous claim as being a fact. If you dont know, the best thing to do isnt to BS and proclaim it as fact. The best thing is to admit that you dont know but will have an answer once enough information is available. Then liberals wonder why there is such distrust of the vaccines?

A perfect example is this time last year Trump was mocked and fact checked for claiming the vaccines would be ready by the end of the year. Scientists said it would be at least 2 years and possibly as high as ten years. At the same time, the China lab theory was labeled racist, xenophobic and pushing it would have you fact checked or cancelled by social media.

On top of all that, the scientists themselves have been shocking in their behavior and advice. Dr Fauci claimed this time last year that social distancing and lockdowns were necessary to stop the spread while at the same time encouraging people to meet random strangers off the internet for sex. Neil Ferguson in Britain famously championed lockdowns only to be caught breaking his own lockdown measures while sick with covid. It makes you wonder if he really believes what he is pushing. Obviously not concerned about his own risk.

It all begs the question of how does science and scientists keep bungling this? Why do we still trust them after being wrong so much? Amazing that so many would be so willing to give up so much for the rest of their lives on such a poor record. If your financial planner was wrong on so many investments he suggested, you would get rid of him and never listen to him again. Maybe we should start doing the same with the experts who chronically get it wrong.

Science is many things, but it's not "a body of knowledge." It a process for adding knowledge to the ENTIRE body of human knowledge. It doesn't stand alone, and thinking in those terms is dangerous.

The anti science , anti expert, wacko conspiracy theorists Qanon wing of the republicans is becoming more absurd.

Trump won the election, the devil worshiping pedophile democratic cannibals will be arrested and trump is going to be reinstated January 6th, no January 20th , it’s really gonna happen on March 6th, well august 13th…maybe? Well any way lindel has the top secret Chinese German Italian Venezuelan database. yeah!

China quarantined 100 million citizens and Italy quarantined 16 million citizens all part of a conspiracy to bring socialism to America! Because that’s what the Chinese and Italians do. conspire together to overthrow American democracy by pretending to have a pandemic!

Dr Fauci graduated first in his class from Cornell medical school and then did ground breaking hiv research just to be in a position to rob Americans of their freedom with his fake pandemic. He convinced other countries to quarantine hundreds of millions of people just to enslave Americans!

All the doctors saying that 95% of hospitalized covid patients are unvaccinated are lying! They went to undergrad, medical school, residency and then practiced medicine for decades waiting for a chance to lie and rob Americans of freedom. Doctors don’t care about saving lives they want socialism!

The anti vaccine patients who say they wish they had received the vaccine were just pretending to be republicans and conservatives for years and they never had severe cases of covid! They were biding their time for years even decades pretending to be conservatives and now they are pretending to get covid to destroy America!

Do you have to be a moron to believe this stuff?
Jesus wept.

Semantics, but thanks for playing. Pro Tip: When you have to resort to arguing semantics, you're pretty much admitting you're wrong. You're on the wrong side of this debate. Accept it and move on.

OP,

Would you prefer that scientists NOT change their minds when shown to be wrong?
