The Tennessee Valley Authority, the Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps were all efforts that put unemployed Americans to work while simultaneously producing tangible benefits for the country.
It was conceived as insurance against poverty and helped millions avoid the financial devastation which was so common before it. The program was modeled after similar programs in Europe, particularly the Old Age and Disability Insurance Bill of 1889 in imperial Germany, sponsored and promoted by Otto Von Bismarck.
People tend to forget the impact of Social Security in their own lives. It is very likely the program even helped your own parents and grandparents live fruitful independent lives.

they were formed to end homeless. How is that working out? the biggest city with homeless in the nation today is NYC with over 78,000 people, FDR's home. Ironic.
99% of homeless are that way by choice. this country is loaded with welfare, help for mental and addiction issues you have to want help though. I bet if we shipped a bunch of homeless by choice folks to liberal neighborhoods something would change.
The ones in Africa/Asia go to Europe. The ones in the Western Hemisphere come here.
Totally wrong because where I live has many south East Asian folks, many Russian folks, many Middle East folks. They come to where the welfare is. They don't come to racist dumps.

Wrong, although the formula is not linear, there is a direct relationship between what you pay in and what your benefit will be.
The unknown, of course, is how long you will receive that benefit. If you die before 62, you get nothing, if you live to be a 100, you will have beat the system.
