One of the greatest things FDR did was when he went on TV as president in 1929 to reassure the American people.

That FDR was a real magician, as he wasn't elected president until 1932, and TV didn't get going until the 1950s or so.
If a GOP president shipped thousands of Japanese-American citizens off to internment camps like FDR did and caused those families to lose millions of dollars in generational wealth you would never hear the end of it.
As a matter of fact, you would have something like the current History Channel, which runs Hitler/Nazi content 24/7, running endless content on this GOP president who did such a despicable thing. I bet most Americans have no idea FDR built camps and forced American citizens into them.
Then there is the "Voyage of the Damned" where FDR turned away the ship MS St. Louis filled with 900 Jews looking to escape Nazi hands.
FDR gave away Eastern Europe to generations of Soviet slavery. The press loved him & the gaggle of progressives that surrounded him. His is one of the most distorted presidencies in American history.
All Presidents are judged on how they performed during a crisis. That's why Lincoln is usually rated #1 - the Civil War was our greatest crisis. If not for Lincoln, the United States would no longer exist.
The Great Depression and WWII were our next greatest crises. FDR led us through those times. Thanks to his actions, we survived both. The fact that he won four times is a pretty good indicator of what the people thought of him at the time.
I give him a 9
Nobody disputes that he was popular among the voters of the time but that wasn't a question
An 8 from me, I think. His handling of the Great Depression was a 9.7 (did NOT like his attempts to pack the Supreme Court), but I think WW II could have been handled better. . BUT he was a very strong leader, which counted for a lot during the 30's and 40's.
He could have done absolutely nothing and civil rights wpukd have been better off
How silly of me to forget
He also ordered crops burned rather than feed them to starving people which not only is beyond inhumane but was also a total failure at what he was trying to achieve
It's really amazing people still want to regurgitate their high school history books and say things like he "led us through the depression" which is wrong and not even mention so many awful things he did.
Being in office for 3 plus terms while your country is in financial shambles is not leading them through anything
He went beyond just bad as a president and belonged in prison for the things he did
Why do you supposed he got reelected over and over?
People are sheep in general and information was way easier to hide back then.
75 years after he died people still can't think beyond their high school text books
People at the time had almost zero clue of the things he was actually doing ,loved his fireside chats where he would bs them (social media of the day) and were happy to accept things with a kick the can down the road policy that they would never have to pay for like ss.
He did do some good with his public works projects I'll give him that.
