On a scale of 1 to 10, I give him a 0.

A 9. He presided over WWII, the last war the US won, with the help of his allies, Churchill and Stalin.
Had Germany got the A-Bomb before we did (and they were close) we'd probably be speaking German today. He created Social Security which let my parents and now ourselves to be self sufficient in their old age and not dependent on their children, which was common before Social Security. That and Medicare allowed tens of millions of retirees to be independent and not a burden to their children. I took off a point because of the way FDR ignored the Jewish refugees during the holocaust.

He let the Communists kill almost my entire family on my fathers side.

HE could have stopped the murder of 10 MILLION people by simply talking about it, but chose not to keep silent. As did, by the way, the New York Times which has still NOT apologized for their role in the killings.

The most evil people always have a smiling face.

Pretty much a fool when it came to foreign policy. Domestically, he search and search for a solution for the depression until Japan gave it to him.

Not much of a "reap".
1.5% of your income never to increase- ha!

Wrong wrong wrong...the we were already deep into the Great Depression which started in 1929...he was elected in 1932...get this revisionist history out of here.

FDR was the best POTUS of the 20th Century...no he wasn't infallible but he got us out of the Great Depression...and led us through WW 2 better than any wartime President ever before or since. Because of him we have many of today's social safety nets and while they pale in comparison to most of our European counterparts, they do help a good deal number of people who would have no help whatsoever w/out.
The economy grew in all but 2 of his years in office and those were 2 yrs where he followed Congress in cutting spending...The New Deal saved our economy.

-- Social Security. America's most popular government program has kept millions of seniors out of poverty. A resounding success.

-- Labor Standards. Passed the FLSA law which created the 40-hr week, required pay for overtime, and established the national minimum wage.

-- FDIC. Gives bank depositors reassurance their money is safe at the bank.

-- Defeated Fascism. FDR fought expansionary fascism on three fronts at the same time and won.

FDR's New Deal was a groundbreaking set of programs that stimulated the economy while being pro-worker at the same time. It laid the foundation for the growth of a strong U.S. middle class which followed in the decades ahead.
You made a bunch of things up and provided no substance.
Laissez-faire worked in the mini depression of the early 1920s. Taxes and spending were cut by 40% over 2 years time and the UE rate went from 12 to under 4. It was over quick, which is why YOU don't know about it. Lack of research does that.

In no way shape or form did FDRs horrible policies stimulate the economy and you have no proof. The longest and worst Depression and you think that is a sign of success?

Because of him we have a reliance on government handouts. And you wonder why over 30% of Americans are on welfare.

So before SS there was no way for Seniors to get by? They were dying in the streets until the benevolent hand of government came along? lol Make something else up.

The New Deal ruined the economy and our entrance into WW2 saved it.

An 8 from me, I think. His handling of the Great Depression was a 9.7 (did NOT like his attempts to pack the Supreme Court), but I think WW II could have been handled better. He also could have done more for civil rights. BUT he was a very strong leader, which counted for a lot during the 30's and 40's.

One could make the argument that too much government intervention, when constantly used to prop up the economy, has helped turn us into a bunch of ungrateful, materialistic, spoiled brats wallowing in our excesses.
It's led to increased crime, substance abuse, depression, pollution, overflowing landfills, etc. We work to consume, not to simply provide the necessities for ourselves.
It's obliterated the family unit since family is no longer needed. Note the replies on here cheering on the fact that parents are no longer a "burden". Should be a privilege to help out, not a burden.
Psychologically, economic downturns are a necessity so that people can get a grip on what really matters. When government can step in and "fix" everything, it leads to more behavior where consequences are no longer taken into consideration. We've managed to stay afloat thus far, but no society can sustain itself indefinitely like that.
