She said employees' average hours have decreased substantially compared to before the pandemic, causing a select group of people to constantly take on additional hours. Overworked staff often suffer from burnout, she said, which has led some workers to quit or request substantial time off.
This could be part of the reason why they are having problems with hiring. Also, if employee hours have been substantially cut, how can they not be fully staffed? That article is a little confusing.

These places around here close early without notice so the employees don't get many hours and have trouble knowing when they are really working. Can you imagine being scheduled for a shift and the place decides to close early in your shift and you used the gas for nothing?
Its because fast food work sucks. You can sweeten the deal with all kinds of perks but its still a job nobody wants. Anyone who can do anything thing else won't work in fast food anymore. Some fulltime custodians get the same or better pay and the pace is much slower and you can get weekends, holidays, and evenings off. Although there is a labor shortage accross the board the restaurant business is going to suffer always. IMO there is too much competition for that unskilled worker.

Actually, yes. It has happened to me on occasion. Very frustrating. But that would help explain why they are still short staffed.
And? If no one wants to sling burgers based on what the employer is offering, then jobs will go unfilled. Someone needs to tell all the whiny employers that there’s no guarantee people will want to work for you. In fact, why would anyone work slinging burgers if they had a better choice? Would you?
What else can you do with absolutely no experience or work history at all that pays $19/hr plus benefits that makes slinging burgers beneath you?
Because $600 a week free money is one helluva behavior modifier. Why work when you can collect UBI while laying on the couch playing XBOX? They have a word for this. they call it "equity".

Seattle area, talking to the self-checkout clerk at Kroger-Fred Meyer Superstore; he's PT, working 12+ months, $20/hr straight time, accepting OT work with 1.5x after 40, $1 extra on Sunday to straight time, 25% discount on Kroger Brands. Kroger is unionized.
They weren't talking TO me, they were talking to each other.
lol It's about you believing them.

No ones saying it's about "you" except you.
When one isn't informed on the issue they deflect and make things up.
