All the roads in the great plains states are mile squares. No thanks.

I remember being told in elementary school that the US would soon convert to the metric system. We had to learn both the American system and the metric system. And 40 years later, we haven't converted to the metric system yet.

I hope it does not change, I see no reason for it to change.

That’s just one example of thousands.

I absolutely refuse to change.

But I’m surprised that leftists haven’t made this a major political issue yet? Surely, this could be another way to divide us? Probably not too many Trump supporters want the metric system.

I can convert the miles/kilometers and gallons/liters in my head easily, but I've driven in a number of other countries. I can also do meters and yards easily, but going smaller than that I don't like.

Canadian here. I'm the generation that started out with the American system (inches, Fahrenheit etc.).....Canadians have adapted -- even the old people -- to complete metric.

It took me -- one trip to the grocery store to figure out that I needed 400 grams of sliced turkey or 1 kg. of beef.

It should be easier in today's world of phones and easy conversion charts.

But no Americans won't do it.....they can't.

The metric system should be taught in schools. I think it is.

It is -- it's a very small unit.

Most of us already know how big is a millimeter. So much clearer than some fraction of an inch. In grade school, we always had those wooden meter sticks in the classroom. And the car's speedometer is in both miles and kilometers. Switching would be easy, we just don't want to.

Maybe it's just too hard to comprehend?
I read somewhere, that many US HS students barely can read and comprehend a simple article or story.

We also can clearly see the comprehension level on this forum...

Probably house construction is what keeps the imperial system. Anything science is already metric in the US.
