Exactly.

I was a child when the "conversion" to metric was tried in the 1960's/1970's.

Didn't happen then, not happening now. We've survived the decades since then with our traditional form of measurement just fine.

We like our cups, gallons, inches, tablespoons, ounces, and miles thank you.

The metric system is easy, I don't know why we don't use it.

Blame Gen X.

Our teachers tried.

We said "hell no".

The end.

Seems like we made a push in that direction back in the 60s or 70s.. I think there are bigger fish to fry so its hard to get anyone on board with this. i do think its a good idea.. but too many other pressing things going on..

I think it's nice that different countries have different rules, traditions and guidelines.

Really don't see the point of making a wholescale expensive change.

It should be easier in today's world of phones and easy conversion charts.

But no Americans won't do it.....they can't.

Yeah, I can think of two stumbling blocks re weight alone off the top of my head....

1. Law enforcement/witnesses/the criminal justice system --- witnesses who, if they are Americans, have a lifetime of unconsciously sizing up people by weight in pounds.

2. When people think about their weight, many people are resistant to 'higher numbers', and there are about 2.2 kg to every pound/about 220 kg to every 100 lbs.

Wrong way. 2.2lbs per kg, so 220lb would be 100kg, and 100lbs would be ~45kg.

Growing up a military brat stationed overseas I was actually only taught the metric system in school. So much easier when everything is just a factor of ten. I still have to look up how many cups are in a quart and such.

I don't like the like the non-granularity, at least in the temperature units. There are only 100 degrees between frozen water and boiling water in Celsius. There are 180 between Fahrenheits boiling and freezing water.

That being said, I'd rather we pick one, I hate trying to compare things equivalency when both units are used in the same example.

But I’m surprised that leftists haven’t made this a major political issue yet? Surely, this could be another way to divide us? Probably not too many Trump supporters want the metric system.

The above shows that in our current hyper political climate there is no chance of the metric system becoming reality.
