In all honesty, Alvin Bragg is right.
There are much worse things needing prosecution fast than stealing $2.75 from the MTA - costs more to prosecute, clogging up the court system.
Some countries have the so called transportation police - which deals with misdemeanors on mass transit- which can issue a fine/throw you out on the spot- maybe NYC could consider it.
It could end up actually being tougher on real violent crimes as they could be prosecuted swiftly?
Just read his program. It makes sense.
If it doesn’t work- he can always admit that and re-group.
I just don’t see everyone using the subway all of a sudden stop paying by jumping over the turnstiles- in other cities they installed different gate types which you can’t jump over - a simpler solution
during his campaign, bragg clearly stated his priorities which included those stated in the OP. he won his DA election with 80% of the vote from the voters who showed up at the polls.
we can assume, based on his overwhelming win, that bragg's stated policies were what the citizens wanted for their city. fine by me. i don't live in manhattan anymore.

FYI many if not most of those serving sentences for drug use pleaded down from much more serious offenses like armed robbery and other violent offenses

Drug offenders shoplift, assault, mug, rob, and commit other violent crimes in order to pay for the drugs they use too.
