Manhattan’s new district attorney has ordered his prosecutors to stop seeking prison sentences in a slew of criminal cases, according to a set of progressive policies made public Tuesday.
In his first memo to staff on Monday, Alvin Bragg said his office “will not seek a carceral sentence” except with homicides and a handful of other cases, including domestic violence felonies, some sex crimes and public corruption.
“This rule may be excepted only in extraordinary circumstances based on a holistic
analysis of the facts, criminal history, victim’s input (particularly in cases of violence or trauma), and any other information available,” the memo reads.
I am not a fan of liberal DA's. When I read the above and the post link I was outraged. It seemed that armed robbery or a violent assault as long as the person survived would be a slap on the wrist. But as usual these click bait outrage stories are not what they seem.
If you actually read what the new DA said it this:
Alvin Bragg, a former federal prosecutor sworn to office Jan. 1 as Manhattan’s first Black DA, told his staff not to bother with many cases of fare beating, resisting arrest and other nonviolent crimes — a move toward fulfilling his campaign promise of criminal justice reform.
“These policy changes not only will, in and of themselves, make us safer; they also will free up prosecutorial resources to focus on violent crime,” Bragg wrote in a memo dated Tuesday.
“On Tuesday, Bragg essentially told thugs, thieves and assorted other lawbreakers to relax: They’ll face little to no consequences for crimes they commit in Manhattan. His message came in a memo barring staff from prosecuting a wide range of offenses and limiting the sentences they seek.”
No wonder hardworking American citizens and their families are FLEEING NYC by the millions. Foreigners are allowed to now vote in NYC; business owners are treated as property of the city; children in government schools are brainwashed by socialist revolutionaries; taxation has now reached confiscatory levels; and now, the king of the socialist revolutionary movement, George Soros, who donated $1 million to Bragg’s campaign last year, will get his wish to allow criminals to pray on and victimize NYC residents with the blessing of the newly elected Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
New York City residents are getting exactly what they deserve for supporting the Democrat Party Leadership in New York City, which is now controlled by socialist revolutionaries.

When New Yorkers continue fleeing the state, please leave your blue voting record there.
You know they won't. They will think that all that went wrong, was just they elected the wrong Marxists into office. Next time, in their new red state, they will do it the right way, and finally achieve their woke Utopia. Fast forward ten years, and they will have screwed up their new home and be forced to move again, rinse repeat.

Aside from that, two examples of this new policy are:
• Armed robbers who use guns or other deadly weapons to stick up stores and other businesses will be prosecuted only for petty larceny, a misdemeanor, provided no victims were seriously injured and there’s no “genuine risk of physical harm” to anyone. Armed robbery, a class B felony, would typically be punishable by a maximum of 25 years in prison, while petty larceny subjects offenders to up to 364 days in jail and a $1,000 fine
• Burglars who steal from residential storage areas, parts of homes that aren’t “accessible to a living area” and businesses located in mixed-use buildings will be prosecuted for a low-level class D felony that only covers break-ins instead of for more serious crimes. Those more serious crimes, class B and class C felonies, would be punishable by up to 25 and up to 15 years in prison respectively.

Criminals aren't completely stupid, they know if they don't face any prison time they will take the opportunity to commit more crimes, steal, burglarize, smash & grab, etc.
What caused crime to fall in NYC back in the early 90s was the adoption of the "broken windows theory" of policing. Police would strongly enforce even the most petty laws, such as graffiti, petty theft, indecent exposure, etc. When criminals go to jail for the "small stuff" then they'll be much less likely to commit more serious crime. The theory seemed to have worked, because crime fell rapidly in the early 90s and NYC was very safe overall throughout the 2000s up until the past two years.

The felony crime rate goes up 25% in 6 to 8 months.
Oh wait going to be hard to prove. He is not going to prosecute some armed robberies .
Resisting arrest. That one right there in the few words will be the down fall of Many A Honored Officer.
The smart officers with enough time in will bail out . And many A new prospective new officer will not take the test or join.
People have to live with the consequences of their vote.
My Uncle and his fam live in Long Island...they are good-hearted people, but as dyed-in-the-wool left as they come. I have always avoided talking politics with them, and vice versa, as they know I am GOP for life, but I do wonder if they are starting to have some small inkling of how proudly misguided they have been.
If not, will they learn at the point of some thug's gun? I hope not.
I know. He campaigned on the issue and did not hide what he planned to do. How could people have voted for him???
