As far as I know drafting US citizens is illegal without a formal declaration of war by congress, so good luck with that.
Of course that has never stopped recent presidents from declaring war without congress, but those were with voluntarily enlisted service members. If they tried to draft anyone the courts would never allow it
The only lesson politicians learned from Vietnam was not to draft anybody. Seriously doubt USA as it exists now will ever again have a draft. People get upset with endless pointless war in foreign land that result in their children coming home in body bags. This results in politicians getting voted out of office. Now volunteers, well they apparently volunteered so people less concerned. Never mind they did so cause of lack economic opportunity in some backwater. And many people replaced with contractors which are doing the job for money only. Also become a more mechanized military, less labor intensive. They are even developing robot soldiers so to lessen the impact further. Drone and robot wars. Lovely future, huh?
War is good business for the dems. Or at least it has been. It also "justifies" any repression they feel like imposing at the time. I'm not so sure it will work out for them this time around, though. They might have half the nation marching in protest in the middle of the streets. Then what are they going to do? Open fire with the M4s?
Seriously. It's really sad all these right-wingers are hoping Biden goes full-blast into a war with Russia just so they can have another excuse to attack him. Biden has already said explicitly he will not send troops to war with Russia but that doesn't stop the right-wingers from saying he will anyway.
Here we have a president who finally got us out of a 20-year-long war in Afghanistan, and yet the right-wingers are hoping he enters another war!
