At this point it feels that WW3 will happen, be it tomorrow or in 6 months but WW3 will happen. Ultimately it will go nuclear. Obviously there is no way to save majority of the public but does US government have any plans to actually save as many of the public as possible after nukes stop falling? Is there any underground shelters available around the country that general public will be able to access? Does the government have enough emergency food and water stored? Am i asking something that is impossible to be prepared for?

No, there is not going to be a nuke war. Back in 2001 I even have news papers predicting a terrorists nuke would go off "this weekend" -- did it? No. And terrorists have nothing to lose.
Russia will take Ukraine and probably a couple of other former USSR states and that will be it.
That Putin is a mad man or that he plans on taking over the world is just Propaganda.
And don't forget how it seems lately governments just keep thowing crisis at their citizens to grab power and keep the people distracted.
ETA: There are other weapons Russia can use to cripple the USA without destroying the planet. EMP?
Of all the alarmist threads we've had to endure in recent weeks, this is the most ridiculous -- especially for those of us who remember the high-stakes days of the Cuban missile crisis of 1962.
The survival of the three suggested opponents in this conflict is not at stake here; this is a dispute over a territory which falls almost exclusively within the Russian sphere of influence (hence, no reason for the Western nations to be overly concerned) and the tactics used by the Russians (who have held an interest in westward expansion which predates even the Marxist revolution of over a century ago) pale in comparison to those of the fallen Soviet Union.
What we are likely to see here is something along the lines of the "Prague spring" of 1968; Russian troops might occupy the Ukraine --but as with the story of the dog chasing the car, "What would they do with it once they had it?"

Only the bacteria, radiotrophic fungi, and possibly cockroaches are truly prepared for it.
Stock up on iodide pills if you want, but it may not save you.

Don't be so sure. The first battlefield in which Americans engaged (with British and Commonwealth forces) the Germans and Italians in WWII was North AFRICA.
The first battle of world War 1 also took place in Africa on the border of French and German African holdings

If the Russians succeed in establishing control over ukraine throughout the Dnieper valley and as far west as Transnistria without direct US/NATO counter-attacks and the US/UK regain convincing influence over NATO/EU - two kiddies, two lollipops - then, yes, for a while they will go play quietly somewhere else.

NATO has stated that it will not install a no fly zone and nor will it become militarily involved in Ukraine.
There is therefore no need for military action involving NATO and Russia.
Putin would have to do something stupid such as attack a NATO country to initiate a NATO response.
Whilst Putin keeps making threats and has even suggested sanctions are a declaration of war, this does not mean he will launch an attack on NATO or initiate a nuclear war.
A major nuclear war would leas to the end of the human planet as we know it, and Mother Russia would no longer exist.
The West has nothing against Russia or it's people, and it's Putin's own paranoia that is causing the current events.
