Personally, both the Feds and State governments should just let this issue go and end any kind of involvement in it. It's a polarizing issue that just makes this country more divided.
If a woman wants an abortion, let it happen. It's on them. It's a shame it is ending a life, but innocent lives are ended every day and society moves on.
The way I see it, the ones who have been crying to "protect the unborn" are the liberals. Conservatives are for less government, which should be across the board on all matters, including this issue. Long ago, a well known conservative (Barry Goldwater) was pro choice, and his wife was a founding member of Planned Parenthood in AZ. His approach was largely hands off on these private matters that are none of anybody's concern, and shouldn't even be political issues.
Also, I'm a firm believer in leaving abortion laws to the states ... as in, letting the voters in each state decide, not judges or legislators. In the end, the only people who should be deciding whether or not to have an abortion are the pregnant woman, her family, and her doctor. Everybody else can mind their own business.
You started out saying conservatives are for less government but condone stricter laws by state government regulating a womans right, doesn't sound consistent. How about just dropping government regulation of abortion by any government state or local, would these conservatives buy into that approach.
Mostly Christian conservatives want to protect the unborn, that is the entire point of the lawsuit they want to shorten with window on the unborn adding more protection.
Conservatives are very interested in the unborn, not so much in children.

We still don't know who did it, and what their motive was.
I listened to a fascinating Megyn Kelly show yesterday, and the consensus was they do likely know now who did it, and it was anyone's guess what side of the aisle (if any) the leaker sits on.
democrats stoking mass hysteria over abortion leak
Democrats purposely had this opinion leaked to stoke the fears. I think Chuch Schumer was behind this along with Nancy Pelosi.
What is bothersome is the hysteria about republicans are now going to target interracial marriage. What they seem to forget the most senior and conservative Judge on the SCOTUS, a black man, is in an interracial marriage. But we know how the democrats tried to tar and feather him back in the early 90s during his nomination hearing.
Also, what democrats did not read the opinion because it would send abortion restrictions back to the states which would not ban abortion.
Democrats have become the party of scumbag tactics to get their way and their ultimate goal of one party rule forever.

We know what side of the aisle. That’s not a mystery.
I hope people are beginning to understand how manipulated the US people are.
This was not unintentional.
There is planning and intention when we have "leaks." There are multiple purposes for creating these situations.
And the losers are ALWAYS the American people.
It's all theatre. It's a big game. It's planned. Take a look and start predicting the next moves. You just might be right.
