Except you (and the author you cited) didn't present it as a remote possibility but almost a certainty ("I firmly believe this is the Left's "ace in the hole"").
I meant in the sense they will have nothing else, whether it's a long shot or not.
It's not like things are going to be going any better under Biden than they are now - so the Dems certainly won't be able to run on the issues.
This is a non issue. The party that is not in the White House always have a runoff. The Democrats just had one and they didn’t suffer from it so why would the GOP be hurt by it?
There is suppose to be a primary and whoever wins that, gets the support of the party behind them, be it Trump or Desantis.
If Republicans want to win back Congress this year:
* Talk about inflation and how it's affecting the average American.
* Hammer Biden on the border crisis and explain how bringing in more immigrants to compete with Americans for jobs is bad, especially for low-skilled Americans who are often minorities. Also, link the border crisis to exacerbating the housing crisis in America. Contrary to popular belief, most legal immigrants, including myself who is black, do NOT support open borders. We are disgusted at the amount of money being spent on illegals who are gaming the asylum system and being flown to different cities in America,
* Stop repeating lies about the election being stolen.
* Outline how they are going to help the shrinking middle class.
What's the GOP plan to fix inflation then? They've not released any plans.
Not one plan the GOP has ever issued would help the middle class...tax cuts for the wealthy do NOTHING for the Middle Class. Gutting Clean Water and Clean Air regulations does NOTHING for the middle class and makes life worse. Taking a woman's right to choose away does nothing to help the middle class. Passing national health coverage would help the middle class.

I would like to know, too.
What's the plan to fix inflation, and the plan to bring gas prices down to 2 bucks a gallon.
No, much of Trump's agenda didn't get passed because RINOs like Paul Ryan still controlled the Party - and they even tried to stop him before he was elected.
But you have to be able to read the room. At least figure out how to get 100% of the people in your party to vote with you. Its politics not a building project.
That all could have been avoided if Trump was more tactful and a better negotiator. You publicly talk smack about people who you need when votes come up and they get even. I am not saying what McCain did was right but Trump pushed his hand. There are RINOS Trump got in line like Lindsey Graham.
At least with DeSantis there is not all that history to deal with. And I think he is less likely to fall into some of the mistakes Trump made in dealing with congress.

Pretty simple. End the war on the energy industry and return us to energy independence. Energy costs ripple through every part of the economy and, just like the velocity of money, a $1 increase in energy may cost the economy $10.

Yes.
Also: Even Left wing sources like CNN and Vox now admit that Biden's COVID Relief Bill (yuck) was the single largest contributor to inflation.
So the Dems make a mess of the place and then have the gall to ask the Party out of power how to fix it.

He did know how to read the room. He knew the nest of vipers he was infiltrating (if not perhaps how craven and debased they would become in a perpetual effort to eliminate him), which is why we voted for him to begin with.
And now MAGA is taking over the Party.
See how that works?
Probably not, because you sound like you never understood to begin with.
