Well, let's see... those who did black face, presumably, did so as over-the-top caricature of blacks, essentially taking stereotypical "black characteristics" and amplifying them to clownlike levels. Many people, especially nowadays found/find that rather offensive.
Then we have what I will refer to as "broad face." Those who do broad face, do so as over-the-top caricature of women, essentially taking stereotypical "female characteristics" and amplifying them to clownlike levels. Same same.
You tell me: why is one offensive and unacceptable and the other is some sort of art form? Is making fun of women any better than making fun of blacks? And don't tell me that is not what a drag queen does. It obviously IS EXACTLY what a drag queen does. All one has to do is look at what they are do. It's the same thing the black face minstrels did a hundred fifty years ago, except race is replaced with gender.
Sorry, but you guys are on the wrong side of history with this, just as the black face performers were at the time. They didn't see it as offensive just as you don't see this as offensive. But at some point, it will be seen for what it is: degrading and offensive.
And note, I'm not talking about "transvestites." That is a completely different subject. I'm talking about men who make themselves into clownlike caricatures of women.
From ancient Greece until after Shakespeare came along, all of the roles in any theatrical undertaking were performed by men. Those in women's roles dressed as women and wore makeup. What you are seeing now is just the modern iteration. It's not a moral statement.
If you aren't volunteering to read at story hours, you are part of the reason they are there.
I am in no way, shape, or form "part of the reason" that men in drag are reading books to little kids at sanctioned events. But you are, with your waxing poetic about the art form -- on a thread about one of the drag queens getting busted for child pornography.

You are conflating two different things. Note that I said above, I am not talking about transvestites or a typical male-to-female character.
Again, I'm talking about men doing ridiculous things and looking ridiculously overdone as a "female." When was the last time you saw ANY woman in your daily life looking that freaking tacky, gaudy, and clownlike? You don't. Again, it's hyperbole "humor" at women's expense. You really have no defense here. I can claim, just as you did that black face was "just a performance by a man." And, yeah, that is technically true. But can you say anything MORE about that performance?
Besides, I doubt a male Shakespearian performer dressed up as a women in a play specifically to make fun of women and make them look cheap and tacky.

One drag queen out of how many who read to kids? This has been going on for several years in libraries all over the country.
In the same time how many politicians and clergy have been charged?
Because the educators want to prove they're tolerant, open-minded, inclusive, and celebrate diversity.
They're not educators. They're indoctrinators.
