If a nation can not compete with other nations at the Olympics because of politics, the whole lot of them should be tossed from all competition. It should be a prerequisite.

No offense.

If he was a "world-class" athlete, he wouldn't have been a coward and competed. He is a racist and therefore is scum who is from Iran. Is that better?

But they are the friendly nation only seeking energy from nuclear plants...No need for them to play friends with the rest of the world or fall prey to stupid nuclear inspections.

Is it racist to accuse a whole nation of people of being racist? Should we say the Chinese are all racist scum because of their government's Olympian "no alcohol for black people or Mongolians" policy? Despite the pseudo-"democracy" the Iranians don't have much control over their government's policies.

Wow what a blanket statement. Even worl class athletes have weakness.
Many US athletes just can't seem to pass on drugs, regardless of the fact it might cost them millions in sponcerships and contracts. Look at the NFL...... Athletes held hostage by the need to get stoned.
This athlete and who really knows his motivation has a family to think about. Maybe he is a racist scumbag. Who knows? Do you have pictures? Video tape? A hidden microphone? We all know how the gov of Iran is ran by religous fantics. Lets see. Tinamn if you swim against Israel knowing your governments stand we may have to investigate your sister for lets say drug trafficing, prostituion, oh and theft. It would be unfortunate if she were found guilty and stoned but we are after all a nation of laws.
Far fetched? Not so in the old USSR.
As I said perhaps he is a political lacky and a believer in these policies, or maybe he is held hostage by what can happen. But to say he is a coward, and scum bag with no facts in hand? Look no further than the NFL a league of world class athletes and at how many of them just can't bare the idea of not getting stoned. Not getting in trouble with the law. Worth millions and fighting dogs for money.

Gotta agree w/the doping & our athletes. Idiots, but that's a different thread.

It is a different thread but in context one must say that calling an athlete a world class athlete a coward because he won't compete. World class has nothing to do with having a weakness that can be exploited. In short calling him a coward was a cheap shot unless thier is evidence he was afraid to compete because he feared competition.
