Russia is sending some ships. This might very well happen.

It's kind of surreal.
I mean, I knew that there were still pirates, I just never expected to see it explode like this in modern times.

It's past out of control. They have made ~80 million dollars in ransom this year alone, and are currently holding some 13 ships for ransom.
The more money they get, the harder they will be to deal with.
But - there is some good news - I was watching MSNBC earlier, and they said that a pirate "mother ship" fired on an Indian frigate, which returned fire, and blew up the pirate ship.
They talked to a UK naval officer and he said that it's simply impossible to cover it all, because it's something like 2.5 million square miles of water, where there pirates roam. The UK is sending some ships now, by the way.

Here's a little backround information on the Somali piracy problem. It's an interesting read. http://english.aljazeera.net/news/af...223218644.html

This is nonsense. Commando style tactics and militarism are not the answer to Somalia's piracy problem. The answer is simple; they need a coast guard. But in order to have one Somalia has to be a sovereign nation, but they aren't. How come? Because of the US. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself.
What you will find is that the Somali piracy problem was created by the US selfishly following its own interests without any care whatsoever for the Somali people. Go ahead research it for yourself and you will see. I dare you--I double dare you, research the Somali piracy problem, and you'll come to a stunning conclusion.

The shipping companies could hire Blackwater or other security companies like them, it would be cheaper than paying ransoms with the way things are going.

Yeah, Somalia was such a bucolic Jeffersonisan democracy before the bad old Rangers went in in 1992 and screwed it all up.
Military action is the answer.
Form up WW2 style convoys & have navy vessels escort them thru the hostile waters.
Better yet use a couple of decoy ships loaded with Marines to lure the pirates out then put a couple AT-4's into their bosts. When a dozen dead pirates wash up on the shore, that will solve the problem.

Just set up a squadron of Predators over the gulf 24/7 and fire a Hellfire into any ship that even looks like a Pirate.
