The Westboro Baptist Church is an extreme cult in Topeka, KS, has about 70 members, most members of Fred Phelps' family, and is not affiliated with any mainstream denomination. All Christian denominations, including the much-hated-by-the-left Southern Baptist Convention, has denounced Phelps and his followers.

Yet liberal activists love to use the Westboro Baptist Church to represent all Christians. They have been so successful that many non-believers see these people as representing what conservative Christianity a.k.a. the Christian Taliban is about.

I, as a conservative Christian, am tired of being lumped into the same category as these hateful maniacs.

There is, has always been, and always will be hate cults that hide under the banner of certain religions.

They aren't representing the image of anyone.....much less Jesus.
They are a bunch of loony tunes that are a gulp away from some deadly koolaid.

I am a liberal and generally annoyed by social regressives. That being said, I do not feel that the Phelps family accurately represents Christian conservatives at all. The Phelps are a bunch of loony crazies. I think conservative Christians are misguided and I fundamentally disagree with them, but they are definitely NOT Phelps.

What liberalism is supporting and standing for today is regressive. Look up the definition esp. paying attention to the biological defintion.

What liberals, and their enabling of homosexuals, are doing is taking society and mankind to a LOWER state, not a higher one.

Regression is a good word.

I don't think most people use the Phelps clan as a representation of what all Christians are like. Yes some people will do it but let's also remember that some people/Christians use the more risky showings in gay parades and the few who have "attacked little old ladies" as to represent the whole gay population. It goes both ways. These groups on both sides should not be used when people are saying what the Christian folks or gay population are like.......it's very unfair. There are bad apples in both groups but they do not represent the whole. I, as a gay man, am tired of being lumped into the same category as violent protestors or parade goers who over-do it with sexuality themes.

Fred Phelps is a Christian who takes it upon himself to issue Fatwas on behalf of Allah. When Muslim clerics do the same thing, the right-wing vigilantes hijack all message boards, and with sneering sarcasm, call Islam the "Religion of Peace" but those same people leave Phelps alone and ignore him.

Most Americans think Phelps does not represent Christianity, but equally moronic and vicious Muslim clerics, when quoted on Fox News, ARE thought of as representing Islam. It is the usual USA double standard, which is the laughing stock of the rest of the world.
