In a free country, even Church members have the right to monetarily support causes they believe in, unless the Morman church wrote the check they did nothing wrong.
Who here has seen the movie religioulous? I love the part where they show the mega church guy with all his bling, and Bill Mahr is asking him why he has to wear all that Gold. He should be taxed for all of that.
I am thinking of going out there, telling everybody that I know God more than they do, preach my false words, and make money from it. I will make more than I do now doing this engineering gig, and I won't have to pay taxes!
i am not anti-religion by any means, but people could meet in a home if they so choose. if churches are going to be trying to influence politics (think reverend wright) then all churches should not receive government funding, not one penny, and should lose their tax exempt status as well.
If the churches or religious institutions want to involve themselves in politics or in making law, then YES, they should pay taxes. Our country would be better off fiscally if the church paid taxes. Why should they be tax exempt anyway?
