Absolutely. But when people talk about wanting to take the heartland because of independent farms being there, when a) there hardly are ANY independent farms left and b) farm subsidies - fraudulent or not - are Federal big government programs, it looks absurd.

But freedom is more even than this: Freedom is the right to question, and change the established way of doing things. It is the continuing revolution of the marketplace. It is the understanding that allows us to recognize shortcomings and seek solutions. It is the right to put forth an idea, scoffed at by the experts, and watch it catch fire among the people. It is the right to stick - to dream - to follow your dream, or stick to your conscience, even if you're the only one in a sea of doubters.

Hillary Clinton had state attorney generals fired, revealed Valerie Plame's identity, accused John McCain of having pretended to adopt his child to cover the fact that she was an illegitimate black baby, totally ran with the Swift Boat Vets and their lies to undermine Kerry, and is now trying to blame any future terrorists attacks on Obama's policies rather than the policies in the Middle East adopted by the Bush administration? I could expand on all of those and might in the future. But did Hillary Clinton do anything of those things? No. And I can't think of something she did do that is of the same magnitude of evil as Rove and Cheney.

That's probably the intelligent thing for all independents to do at this juncture. Worst case scenario, you get stuck with Montana (and maybe North and South Dakota if you want them) as your new country. Best case scenario, us liberals and conservatives wipe each other off the map and your country becomes a lot bigger.

Very good point. That alone makes me throw in with the Libertarians in the Northwest or wherever they are. Democrats and Republicans have both shed way too much blood.
