maybe they should have considered the possibility they'd be shot before they took hostages. ya think?
You obviously did not comprehend the back round of the "pirate" situation in Somalia did you? I guessed you missed the little point about US complicity and involvement in the undermining of Somalia's legitimate government.

no, i got the part where some dingbatty nutbar from the 'world socialist web site' quite predictably bawled stupidly that it was all the fault of the US, without a shred of evidence.
Well, we don't know the out come of the trial just yet. At least he is getting a trial, in his own country I doubt he would be afford such. In places like China they simply put a bullet in their heads. Be thankful he was taken by the US.
I read the article, it didn't surprise me that ,it was asserted, it's the fault of the USA that pirates exist.
It's a worn out theme in my estimation.
You're delusional.
US complicity and involvement in the undermining of Somali government is an indisputable fact, and I challenge you to offer any evidence to the contrary.
Hang a sixteen year old kid? Well I guess fairness and justice are two issues that are far from your heart.
We try 16 year-olds as adults in this country every day. Many are sentenced to life without parole. There may even be a few on death-row.
Not saying it is right, just is.
Frankly, I am confused about the point of this thread. This person held someone at gunpoint after attempting to steal something that isn't his. He is getting the fairest trial he can possibly get under the circumstances.
Those three words in your post prove that you've got no idea what you're talking about. Somalia's about as big a no-man's land as there is. They HAVE a government, but they are in one tiny province and have no control over anything that goes on in their country.
He was taken captive and given a fair trial. It's apparent that unless we'd taken him, given him a big hug and put him on a Carnival Cruise back home, you'd complain. But then you'd probably say we should have splurged for the Royal Caribbean Cruise instead.
I don't care how disenfranchised someone is, right is right, and hijacking and killing people for money isn't right, and those that do have no place in this world.

This is nonsense. If you read the article then you quite obviously didn't comprehend it. The writer gave a brief yet concise history of the relationship between Somalia and the US government. So what "facts" do you dispute? Please tell me, I'd like to know.
