Ya know , if Senator Boxer had been male this wouldn't have been newsworthy.

But a mere woman has the nerve to correct a MAN and everyone gets their knickers in a twist!

A woman "gets uppity" and OH MY! Who DOES she think she is!

She doesn't want to be called "boy" anymore! OH HORRORS!!!

LOOK at the hatred directed at her because she wants to be addressed correctly ! It is nothing but misogyny with a heavy dose of stupidity.

The term "Ma'am" is SEXIST.

What they do in the military has nothing to do with the circumstances of Boxer's request...SHE isn't in the military.

AND, the military has a history of sexual harrassment, sexual bias, and RAPE of it's female soldiers so don't tell me about his level of respect for Boxer or any other woman!!!!

ma'am in the south is considered a polite term and boxer needs to get over herself. SHE WORKS FOR US! (hopefully not much longer).

This WASN'T the "south"...this was HER territory. Certainly she works for us but does that take away her right to be referred to as she prefers? NO.

You may not like her policies but requesting that she be referred to as Senator does NOT have anything to do with her POLICIES!

NO! Women who have power and USE IT do

NOT

need to get over themselves.

Again...if the Senator in question was male NOTHING would been said about it.

I agree with you. She should worry about the real issues. This was NOT said to degrade her but she tried to degrade the General with her obvious personal issues about her own self esteem.

True - but most of the right wingers on this forum are totally unreasonable...

I agree with her position...

How would the General have felt if she repeatedly referred to him as 'man'...

Get it straight please.....Sir (proper military term for male) and Ma'am (proper military term for female). There was ABSOLUTELY no disrespect in the General's utilization of the term "Ma'am", it is proper protocol for military personnel. She took advantage to belittle and "power play" a career soldier who has served this country admirably.

I couldn't agree more. When i was in the forces, respect was one of our top priorities and this General was being respectful as he has been trained to do. Is this woman menopausal?

This wasn't a military setting and Boxer was under NO obligation to make it one.

This was HER territory no matter how much anyone may hate the word "her".

Your only concern is that it WAS a "her" ....if it had been a "his" you wouldn't have heard a word about it!
