concern for the ability of the child to understand some parts of the Bible could be called an attack, either.
That isn't UP to a teacher to decide. If it is, she shouldn't have asked for books from home to be brought into school for "free reading" time without first sending home a pre-approved and "non-offensive" list of such. Maybe she should have taken all the kids to Barnes and Noble on her dime and let them pick out books she liked and approved of and thought were "age appropriate" for "full understanding".

I was actually talking about posters here on C-D expressing that concern. The teacher was wrong in saying reading the Bible wasn't "allowed". Nothing I have read says she expressed that concern, just that she said it wasn't allowed.
NJ Teacher Tells Girl to Put Away Bible (http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/local_news/new_jersey/091215-nj-teacher-tells-girl-to-put-away-bible - broken link)
NJ teacher tells 3rd grade girl to put away the bible because the bible was not appropriate reading material for quiet time. Bet she wouldn't have had a problem if it had been the Communist Manifesto.
The Bible is inappropriate for a child to read anywhere, anytime.
Yep, it's a children's version, geared towards children specifically.
Do you know how many versions of the Bible there are out there? And how all these scholars come up with slightly different interpretations? Tell me that a child has enough life experience and discernment to decide for him- or herself what is right, and what isn't.
This instance is a clear violation of the separation of church and state...although not in the way some of the loonies on here think....
A public institution (this school) imposed on a girl (whose parents are obviously ok with her reading the Bible) religious oppression during her own free time! Wars have been fought over religious persecution, and it is frightening to see it seep into American society...
I wonder what the reaction would be if it was a little Muslim girl told to put away the Quran? Men have been killed over such things...

Tell me, Kramer, what random guy on the internet knows what's best for someone else's child?
