Dr. Conspiracy wrote a great editorial about the Manning 'trial' today. In it he said:
Quote:
The Pastor Manning “Blood of Jesus v Obama” trial was not heard by an impartial jury. It was heard by volunteers who showed up for the purpose of voting guilty. There was no defense, and no cross examination of witnesses. Putting aside the fact that the entire process was play acting, even the play acting violated the most sacred principles of American justice.
Manning is not just wrong and not just silly; he is fundamentally Un-American.
Lieutenant Colonel Terrence ("Terry") Lakin serves as Chief of Primary Care and Flight Surgeon for the Pentagon's DiLorenzo TRICARE Health Clinic. He is the lead Flight Surgeon charged with caring for Army Chief of Staff General Casey's pilots and air crew. LTC Lakin, selected for promotion to Colonel, is a native of Colorado, whose residency is Tennessee. LTC Lakin's numerous awards and decorations include the Army Flight Surgeon Badge, Combat Medical Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Armed Forces Expedition Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon sixth award and the NATO service medal. He has served previously in Honduras, Bosnia, El Salvador, Korea, and Afghanistan.
I don't speak for "The Left", but I for one have respect for (most) US decorations (and no respect for the Swiftboaters) - LTC Lakin's Bronze Star, at least, speaks of personal courage. He's still wrong.
Of course, if we're going to use decorations as a yardstick in this little debacle, did you check out the guy who actually ordered him overseas? Brigade Commander Col. Robert Gordon, whose ribbons include the Medal of Honor.

In your opinion.

I only posted this because a certain poster tried to downplay his service, it is not about who has more medals, just that he is not some rube fresh off the truck.

Actually.... no, it does not.
A Bronze Star awarded for valor actually has a "V" device. Without that device, it is merely a meritorious service ribbon, though one given when a person is formally in a war zone.
Lakin's Bronze Star does not have the "V" device. So it says exactly nothing about his personal courage.

Now... there you will find no argument from this old soldier.
