It's more childish to believe in forcing people to pay for X, then not offering X, nor the money one was forced to save for X in return. Only in a bizarro world would this be normal. No wonder people go out of their way to avoid paying taxes.
Call it whatever you want, but it is a fact of life, and has been for decades. Everyone knew it was not sustainable, yet no one put an end to it, or even tried to slow it down. In 2003 the Republicans, of all people, crammed a huge expansion to it down our throats, and the very same people who claim to "oppose" these programs voted for those Republicans. And the people who claim to "oppose" them, are now the most vocal about the cuts to these programs. They have a funny way of opposing these things.
The older population paid for DECADES into the social security program. Why would they not deserve consideration for their government-mandated contributions?
The healthcare program proposed by this administration is nothing more than a hand-out to those who moan the loudest.
You moan the loudest, so it must be for you.
I have also paid for decades, but I am not crying today.
We are losing our only two Doctors because of husseon obama. Now the people on Medicare will have to travel over an hour and a half to see a doctor. I cannot wait until this con man is out.
This is so terrible, for those on Medicare, i feel for them so very much. What is happening here, is not good, nor the change so many invested in.
I have known for over 20 years that I will never see all the money I have paid into these programs. It is childish for them to ask for their money back, because everyone knows it won't happen.
If one puts money into an institution for decades, and that institution just decides it will abscond with the deposits,.....the depositer is "childish" to demand an accounting for his money?
What a thoroughly idiotic response.
The government should be held accountable for its mandated actions that have affected the lives of so many for so long.

Yes, it is childish to stomp your foot and demand things which you will never get.
It was no secret that the SS was going bankrupt. Everyone even had their own little analysis about which year it would happen. Reagan said it, Bush Sr said it, Clinton said it, Bush Jr said it, so everyone knew it, yet no one did anything to slow it down.
This means that a senior citizen on Medicare will no longer be accepted as a new patient as of 3/1/10. We have a hard enough time getting appointments with specialists for our Medicare patients. It will be impossible now. We will have to refer them to the county hospital clinics where it will be months for an appointment with a specialist.
A taste of what Obamacare will be like.

One may suppose the question was too difficult to answer.
Pay-as-you-go only when you feel like it.

Then, why did you pay? Kind of a "sheepish" thing to do, don't you think?

Right, and no wonder people don't want to turn over increasingly more control to the government.

SS was going bankrupt because our duly elected politicians were dipping into the fund for their pet projects that had nothing to do with Social Security or associated benefits. They were addicted to spending and buying favors, and this was a handy "cookie jar" with no one being held accountable.
The government put controls on Medicare by making it unlawful for doctors to treat Medicare patients and charge them directly. There was a time that doctors could not exceed what Medicare would cover by more than 15%. Anything above that, the patient didn't have to pay. Anyone recall those days?
Charges were more reasonable and that system worked just fine because often the patient paid nothing extra. But government threatened to put those doctors out of business, which forced some doctors to decline Medicare patients, and that number has been growing ever since.
