At nearly 90 years old, she figured she can come out of the closet now. She no longer needs to be PC due to the position she attained and held during her life. And now people will make sure not to have any connection to her. They will decline any friendship to her. When she passes she wont be remembered for all the good she protrayed, only this one bad statement. But alas she is an AMERICAN. She is a citizen. She has all the rights of one including free speech. And she will have to deal with, and accept the ramifications of her statement as a public figure.
And just in case you may feel there wont be any, just google the Mel Gibson comments he made in 2006 and see how much damage control he had to do.
She created this all on her own. If she grew up hating anyone it would have been the Ottoman Empire. Her family probably left Lebanon previous to 1920 either due to the great famine or being a minority christian in mostly Sunni Tripoli.
People need to understand that, every country on this Earth has taken land by force from other people. The jews were kicked out of Israel after the muslims captured it 1,300 years ago. Many of these jews migrated to places such as Spain, in which they were also kicked out during the Spanish Inquisition. Just go to google and look up the political boundaries of Europe, or the world.
The land no more belongs to Palestinians than it does to the jews. Neither party truly has any more right to it than the other.
The jews wouldn't be there now if Britain hadn't conquered the area and allowed the jews to move back there.
Since the beginning of time the world has seen conquest after conquest. Whether you think it is right and good is another matter. If you look at World War II, the Germans sold their conquest of Eastern Europe as retaking lands rightfully the Germans(the Sudetenland, Danzig, Austria, etc), which they lost as a result of various wars. It is ridiculous to condemn one conquest but not the other. And it is purely political.
When I see the problems in the middle-east, I think of it as the centerpoint of conflict. Either the jews are powerful enough to hold their lands(or others who are powerful offer to assist them to hold their lands, which is basically just an alliance/defense pact that has been common throughout history), or they are not, and they are either conquered or they are repulsed back into another country.
I see the situation in Israel and Palestine as an ongoing war. Either we should support Israel, or we should support Palestine, or we should just stay out of it. We keep trying to play both sides of the fence, and its stupid.
Maybe if the palestinians would stop lobbing deadly rockets into her cities, it wouldn't be so bad for them. Or maybe if they just stated that Israel has a right to exist, conditions would change for them. As it stands, they two are at war with each other.
I think they should be allowed to duke it out.
The blind left wingers do not see the rockets being launched almost daily.
They do not want to believe that the real terrorist loving nuts on the other side need their butts kicked.
Do not forget it is the Palestinians who aid the terrorist in every way they can yet our embarrassment left wing Americans of course take the wrong side on these issues.
When Israel aids OUR enemy then we can talk, until then those who love the terrorist and back the Palestinians need to go help them fight and kill as many Israeli's as they can. This is what the American left wingers want anyway.
Sad to think the American left wingers love the terrorist so much they are willing to look like total fools and back the killers of innocent Israeli women and children.
Shame on the left wingers in America for backing the same groups of people who want to kill Americans any chance they get.
