Christ Fellowship wants to add more than 22,000 square feet to the already massive Digital Domain building before even receiving the keys to the former digital animation studio on Friday.
The City Council Monday unanimously approved the megachurch’s request to add a 22,250-square-foot worship center to the 115,000-square-foot former animation studio ahead of Friday’s closing. The area will seat approximately 1,500, church representatives said Monday.
Other modifications inside the former studio — estimated at $6 million to $8 million — would include a children’s ministry, representatives added.
Over a year ago when I still lived in Port St. Lucie I blogged about a city initiative to establish neighborhood identities for the neighborhoods found outside of the gated neighborhoods. There is a Neighborhood Planning Workshop scheduled for next Wednesday, July 22nd from 6:30 - 8:30 for zips 34953 and 34954 at the Community Center. You can view my blog post for more information about the city initiative.
There is also a website set up (www.pslneighborhoods.com) and a phone number in case anybody would like more information 772-871-5282. I received the email yesterday.

Interesting theory I guess, Applying labels to people to improve civic pride and possibly get group "buy-in" that will hopefully lead to group identity and private citizen bought/paid for beautification projects etc., I believe it is likely to lead to a bunch of wasted tax dollars on projects to "encourage" this behavior especially in light of the recent tax increase required due to other bad decisions/expenditures.
Be nice to see from the outside what happens, as I transition to the inside.

I'm not sure I share your sentiment about this. I think it's a good idea to establish neighborhood identities. It gives people a sense of place, and it allows the community to build it's infrastructure to further meet it's habitants needs. Having lived in Port St. Lucie I can say without a doubt that too many communities outsides of gates are lacking basic services that as neighborhoods could better be faced. Further, having an identity (sense of place) they right people can come together to determine what is best for their own neighborhood. Time will tell though.
