That's a statement that is very dramatic but doesn't mean anything.

That sounds horrible on the surface, but what are the chances are of someone getting shot "anyplace else in the city"?

Please don't reply with "about two thirds less".

How about something like 1 in 900,000,000,000,000?

The gang activity in North Portland is actually shifting over to the outer Eastside of Portland out past 82nd.

Sorry, my previous comment was a sort of snide remark directed towards a certain someone on here who likes to be an all-knowing presence about every place in Oregon despite the fact they don't even live in Portland.
No worries, I thought it was directed at me, which confused me, but no hard feelings. I have only had my car broken into once when I use to live near PSU and it was because I was an idiot and forgot I had a backpack full of dirty work clothes in my back seat. The burglar stole a bag and work clothes worth literally nothing and cost me the price of replacing two windows.

You still have a higher chance of being run over by a car, hit by lightning, or drowning in your own bathtub. I'd be willing to bet that statistically your chances of being shot in Dallas is pretty near the same in Portland, possibly even higher due to the lower population.

Yeah, I've had gym bags full of dirty clothes and windows smashed twice myself in the last year... This is up near Mt. Tabor though. But like clockwork, the one or two days I forget I left my gym bag in the back seat--someone is smashing and grabbing that night... Car theft is pretty prevalent in Portland.

Gym bag theft? How curious!
I better tell my husband to take his clothes in.

We have had clothes and miscellaneous stuff stolen from our car here as well. I don't leave anything in my car of value anymore.

Last year my wife's car was left unlocked and was gone through during night.
All they took was my favorite old rain jacket, and an crappy foldable lunchbox (with some juice in it) which we later found down the street.

The glovebox, trunk and all the places you would think would be normal targets were untouched.

Weird. I do miss that rain jacket though.

Thieves are idiots, in general.

Many years ago I had my house broken into. They took all my half-used bottles of nail polish, but left the $100 inlaid wood box next to it.

I learned that lesson when I was 18. I was working a graveyard job and one night someone broke into a bunch of out vehicles in the parking lot. I had huge stereo system stolen and a cd binder full of expensive imported electronica music. Insurance only covered my stereo head unit since my amp and subs were not bolted down.

The funny thing is they also stole a phone charger and things I thought would not get stolen. Weird stuff. A bag of kids clothes I was going to give to a friend and left in the back of the car. Now when I shop I take the bags with me from place to place.
