If you can afford it and agree with the philosophy, I would recommend a midwife for the prenatal period. It is costing us $2000 for the entire prenatal care, post-natal care and home delivery. My first visit at the doctor's office was $500 alone! The entire pregnancy and delivery would cost at least $10,000 if everything went smoothly. We have an extremely high deductible, so for us, it was almost as if we had no insurance other than catastrophic. It made more sense for us to use a midwife, especially because we believe in the different model of care that they provide. Not for everyone, but certainly a better and more affordable option for us!
