Too bad for the Panthers, KingCat, that Cam Newton didn't step up than I thought he would. Carolina had a better offense but they had a very tough time getting anything going and they suffered a few turnovers and six pre-snap penalties and few phantom calls by the referees. Newton kind of acted like a quitter because he knew he lost the Super Bowl that's for sure.

You have to wonder.. Without the Manning/Brady rivalry.. How many more Super Bowls would Peyton have gone to? Or, vice-versa.. How many more would Brady have gone to?

That's exactly right. Just like like the rivalry between Brady and Roethlisburger and/or Peyton and Roethlisburger.

The Panthers are now the only 1 loss team to lose the SUPER BOWL. (I think).

I believe that only the 49ers and Bears entered the Super Bowl with 17-1 records and they both won...

Actually Carolina is 0-2 in Super Bowls. They previously lost the Patriots the last time the Panthers made the Super Bowl.

I guess you can keep going with that. Steve Young wouldve had at least 3 if not for Aikman.

MCO65 was referring to season records, not franchise records in the Super Bowl.

In the 16 game era, I think the statement is correct. (There have been at least two 15-1 regular season teams that lost before the Super Bowl - the 2004 Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game, and the 2011 Green Bay Packers in the NFC divisional playoffs.)

In the 14 regular season games era, both the 1967 Oakland Raiders (SB 2) and 1968 Baltimore Colts (SB 3) entered the Super Bowl with one loss (14-1 in the Raiders' case, 15-1 in the Colts' case) and lost in the Super Bowl.

Talib committed three penalties in the first half.
15-yard for taunting
Talib grabbed Brow’s facemask in full stride running, a blatant and dangerous play
Talib jumped offside on the ensuing extra point
He was not ejected and factored into Denver's dominant defensive performance Sunday with five tackles and two passes defended.

Ron Rivera used both of his challenges in the first 18:42 of game time, losing first and winning the second.
Rivera's first challenge came after Jerricho Cotchery bobbled a potential catch in the first quarter. While CBS' Mike Carey expected replays to overturn an incomplete catch, the replay officials stuck with the call on the field.

The Panthers are penalized 12 times for 102 yards
The Broncos are penalized 6 times for 51 yards
Overall
Carolina had more first downs 21 to 11
Carolina had more total plays 75 to 56
Carolina had more total yards 315 to 194
Carolina had more average yards per play at 4.2 vs 3.5
Carolina had more yards passing at 197 vs 104
Carolina had more yards rushing 118 vs 90
Carolina possessed the ball longer 32:47 vs 27:13
Manning was sacked 5 times, 3 by Ealy to tie a SB record

What hurt?
Carolina had two additional turnovers 4 vs 2
Newton sacked 7 times

Despite what would appear to be superior performance by Carolina, they obviously lost and I would say they were just outplayed by Denver.
It is interesting to speculate what would have happed without what appears to be poor officiating but we will never know.
All we can do is move on.
