I like instant replay in football just like other sports. If the refs make a bad call, he should look at the play though the only problem is, instant replay seems to take too long.
I like the instant replay and the think ref calls should be reviewed. Each team should get 2 challenges on penalties or missed penalities as well as their two challenges they currently have on plays.
Yes, but with a caveat. They are taking TOO LONG... speed it up would ya.
I like how College doesn't rely on the coaches to make challenges if they see an obvious blown call. Plus, i am not sure that many of these refs understand what 'clear and indisputable' evidence truly means.
^^I agree. It's too slow. Speed it up. It's also not always clear what's review-able and that's bad. I would change the time-out rule though. You challenge, it counts you a TO either way. Again to speed things up. Too many stoppages of play as it is.
I have no serious dog in this fight, really, but it seems that instant replay must've come about because 1) technology is available, and 2) mayhaps they believe that the on-field officials don't always get it right.
I have no idea how many officials were originally assigned to football games in the olden-golden days, but it's possible they began with one or two -- then gradually upgraded up to where they are now (half-dozen plus...).
My opinion is this: officials are human beings which (normally) have two eyeballs and two ears. It's very possible that even with half a dozen humans times two eyeballs... they could still miss calls -- and they certainly do.
However, is instant replay the best solution? I'm not convinced at this point in my football life.
Jonas and Mco65 are right. They should speed it up. IMO, they should only take one minute or less. I think the NFL should look at why instant replay is taking too long.
Of course, they don't always get it right, but that was part of the excitement. If it weren't for Technology most people wouldn't even be able to tell. When you have to slow the "tape" down to 1/1000 of a second just to find that one frame that shows the blade of grass in the right position, that is crazy. An hour long football came now takes on average, 3 hours. That is what is crazy. All of the stops and starts make the game worse, not better.
Yes, I do. They capture things you can't see in real time. Case in point, Cam Newton's TD pass last week to Ted Ginn Jr that looked out by the naked eye, but once you slowed it down, it's like WOW HE MADE THAT CATCH!
Sure it's annoying but it's gotten a little faster and getting the call right is the most important thing, worth the wait.
