I pay 800 a month for my wife, my two children and me. This includes dental and eye. I work for a fortune 500 outfit that uses empire blue cross out of nyc. this includes 5 million for cancer and 3 million for any transplant. we are pleased with it.If the goverment takes over healthcare(socialism), then the service level real go down. The best and brightest will no longer go in to medicine.

Just one pink slip will change many to a have-not in the health care scene. Hope you never find this out the hard way.
There are high deductible "catastrophic" plans for a very minimal premium. NHS is far from perfect.

Do you have any details or pointers to any of these plans? What I have found is that if you have ever had any health issues those minimal premiums turn into out of sight premiums.

PS I am not in favor of nationalized health care, but some solution has to be found.

Moni007,

Is this $245 per month being paid through an employer or on your own? If this is on your own could you please provide us with a bit more detail because I work as a consultant and have no medical insurance for my family and can not afford the high cost that is being quoted to me for my family of 4. Every day that I wake up I pray that my family stays healthy because of the high healthcare cost. I would at least like to have some kind of coverage for my 2 kids; right now I am rolling the dice and opting to "Pay-As-I-Go".

Anyone out there who is paying in the $200's - $300's+ per month for family coverage, PLEASE do share with the rest of us. In addition, does the lower cost and qualifying have anything to do with your zip code, because my wife was asked that question after making an inquiry via BCBS? Thanks all.

I am in the process of signing up for a high-deductible HSA plan from BCBS for my family (me, wife, 1 daughter). We're young and in good health and were quoted several premiums ranging from $200-$600, depending on deductible, maternity and dental coverage and co-insurance. Maternity and dental each seem to run about $100-150 per month.

Our current insurance plan expires at the end of September, and when I actually set this up with an agent next week, there's the chance that the premiums will vary a bit from the quoted rates on the website.

I'll let you know after I "do the deal" so to speak next week. I wouldn't do the pay-as-you go, as you can run into some real problems down the line.

Honestly my dog has a better health care plan than I do, for $27 a month he gets all his shots, unlimited office visits, 15% of all meds, all the basics like bloodwork and lab tests, his plan even includes a dental. The one time he needed surgery to remove a fatty tumor it was about $650-$700.
