I have a quick question for you guys. For a family how much do your jobs have you pay every pay period. My insurance plan with blue cross is 245 per month for a family. I think this is very expensive. What else can I do or get for my family?

The start up company my DH works for doesn't really offer group health insurance (too few employees), so we had to purchase our own plan through BCBS and my DH's employer pays 1/2 of it. It's $800 a month for a family of 4. $245 sounds great!

245 for a family seems pretty reasonable. We pay 335 for BCBS family. We paid about 200 at my husband's last job, but it was a low BCBS plan (copays and coinsurance were high).

$245/month for a family sounds great, IMO... and I work in health policy research, so I fancy myself somewhat of an expert. HOWEVER, it's hard to make any judgment without knowing the other costs involved in your plan--like, do you have a deductible? What kind of copays are there? Rx coverage?

We pay just over $350 for a family plan, but have no deductible and minimal copays for non-specialist services. I think that's pretty reasonable too. When you consider that a comparable UNSUBSIDIZED (non-employer based) family plan would cost close to $1,000 or more, $245 starts to sound pretty darn good. I actually think it's a shame how insulated we've become from the true cost of medical care in this country... but I'll stop there. I could talk about this for days.

See the movie "Sicko" to really appreciate the mess we are in.

If the coverage's decent, $245 is a great rate for a family.

Procfreq speaks the truth. At Duke, our family plans range from $215-400 a month. The cost to Duke is $750-1100/month for these plans. To find a similar plans outside an employer, you'd likely be looking at 1200-1600/month. After considering that, $245 for a family looks like a pretty good deal.

I pay $89.85 twice a month (15th and last day of each month) for BCBS Medical, Delta Dental, and Eye Med Vision (all family coverage).

Default average

I pay about 200 per month. I think that if you have to pay over 500 a month that it isnt worth it. Save that money yourself, earn interest and pay cash. If you have kids there is an argument there I am sure.

Health care industry is killing us and illegal aliens are also sucking the life out of the system. I hear that in CA some hospitals are or have closed due to not taking in enough money but having to serve many illegal aliens.

this is just another US problem that our leaders do nothing about.
