If I am driving from 55 to 540 east towards Raleigh, I see some toll signs, do I have to pay toll for this trip ?

Yes. It costs $0.52 with NC Quick Pass and it's $0.80 without. If you have a bill-by-mail account (i.e. no transponder) you pay an extra $5.00. If you don't pay, the fines add up quickly (search this forum for more details)

What $5.00?? You just pay the toll by mail. No extra $5.00. There is a $6.00 late fee if you dont pay by the due date.

Please tell me of this extra $5.00 charge??

EDIT: A $5.00 charge is FOR the transponder sticker. Bill by mail has no extra fee....just the increased toll...

So I guessed they changed it? They were going to charge an extra $5 for bill by mail to encourage you to get a transponder.

Sooooo....I jumped on 540 at Six Forks road to head toward (capital blvd) Wake Forest (instead of taking my regular back roads route). I noticed little camera like thingies on poles.

Can someone please tell me if that small stretch is a toll area?

^That area is not tolled. The entire stretch east of I40 through north Raleigh isn't tolled. It is probably a DOT camera. If you went through a toll exchange you would know it. They are a large gray structure overhanging the entire width of 540. They also flash brightly as you pass under them. At least the one near NC54 does.

Thank you so much for responding. I haven't been on a toll road in well over 20 years. Back then, there were humans or we threw a couple quarters into the toll.

This is not _yet_ a toll area... but is a TROLL area so be very, very careful of what you do cause Big Brother is watching you.. and in this case, Big Brother is a bunch of hopelessly incompetent NC DOC idiot wanna be rednecks lol!

Wonder if the anti-red light camera license tag spray would work on the toll rats.

Just idle thought since my depth perception problems keep me on local roads.

Maybe the bums can be defeated, eh? Haven't heard the high gloss spray is illegal. it does protect the plate from fading.
