The throat tickle / dry cough I get from allergies was starting to freak me out. I held off as long as I could but I started taking daily Zyrtek yesterday considering I knew I'd be doing yard work. I guess when the sheen of yellow on my car is gone, I can stop.

My N95 mask did a great job filtering the pollen when I mowed my lawn for the first time this season late Friday afternoon. Unfortunately my eyes almost swelled shut. Benedryl take me away...

Never was a big Kenny Rogers fan, but I sure liked Ruby that came out in 1969.

Got our vegetable plants from Logan’s this past week, and they are going in the planter boxes this weekend. Three varieties of tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, and four kinds of sweet peppers. Harvesting the last bit of broccoli today to make room, then prepping the boxes. My son is ready with his small shovel and hoe to start turning the soil. My daughter is prepping and seeding her annual flower beds. Great way to keep stir crazy 1st and 4th Graders busy and active. Should be a nice weekend at home.

Would now be a bad time to introduce my daughter (age 10, going on 30) to the post -apocalyptic sci-fi genre of tween books? She’s an advanced reader and kind of an “old soul,” devouring Harry Potter, Wrinkle in Time, etc., but I’m hesitant to give her the City of Ember series (previously purchased), given, well, potential “Zombie Apocalypse” and all...

#involuntaryhomeschooling...

I’ll save Stranger in a Strange Land, Brave New World, and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep for the next wave.

As an aside, my soon to be 7 year old asked for a baseball bat for his birthday, and also asked if the barbed wire would come with it.
