Well, I wouldn't know since I've never been to a Shake Shack. But actually, they're not in DC proper - they're in NoVa and suburban Maryland. In NoVa, there's one in Fairfax, Sterling, Leesburg, Alexandria, Manassas, Woodbridge, and Fredericksburg. The one in Alexandria is pretty new, I believe. That one would be closest to DC.

Thirteen pages dedicated to the Wegmans thread. Now this is impressive!! When we lived on Staten Island (NYC), my wife, her sister and mom would make a weekly run to the Wegmans in Woodbridge New Jersey. Their main draw is the prepared food aisle which is great and their prices are a bit more reasonable. The one in NJ recently added a craft beer and wine aisle, along with a growler filling station which is a thumbs up in my book. I know most of the chains around here have that now. For all who have heard the hype about Wegmans, you won't be disappointed when they finally do open.
The Wegmans there does have an Alexandria address, 7905 Hilltop Village Center Dr., Alexandria, VA 22315, but it is not located where most people probably think of Alexandria. It's probably closer to Mt. Vernon than downtown Alexandria. It's kind of right off of I-95 a couple miles south of the beltway. It does have it's own pub though: The Pub by Wegmans | Alexandria, VA.
Not really near a Shack Shake, which has locations at Dupont Circle, F Street, Union Station, Nationals Park and Tysons Corner, VA. I would just get off I-95 at exit 166A to experience "the Wegmans", then continue up to DC, via VA-611 and US-1.
There will be a new Wegmans built near a Shack Shake located at Tysons Corner, but it has a TBD Opening Date, which means it could open after the one in Cary.

I'm happy for everyone and will check the store out once it opens. I have been to Publix in Cary several times, not overly impressed so hopefully this chain will.
I agree with many, I'm in and out of a grocery store in 15-20 minutes, I can't imagine spending so much time in a grocery store, shopping/eating, etc...for me it's a waste of time I make my list, head into the store, boom done, leave. lol
