Northgate is truly depressing to visit nowadays, with lots of closed stores and few name offerings left. Unless it gets a major anchor in soon, it's going to resemble a lot of those empty building in Burlington that used to house dozens of discount merchandise until that died out. I find Southpoint easier to navigate than Crabtree, but Crabtree has a better selection of upscale restaurants. Haven't done enough at Cary Towne Center to make a judgment call there.

It was Thalheimer's in NC before Belk. Thalheimer's was based in Richmond, VA.

Southpoint and triangle town center are my go to malls. Depends on what I need - TTC is closer but southpoint has better selection.

I was there once and watched a security guard put sandbags by the doors to keep water out. This was on the highest floor, and there was a ton of rain water coming off the parking lot. That mall is just poorly designed all around from a flooding standpoint!

I think the value restaurants are better, and I'm not big on Cheesecake Factory, Zinburger, and Maggianos since they are all overpriced. I wish the Southpoint area would get some more chains like Texas Roadhouse/Longhorn, Cheddars, Olive Garden, etc. I'm wondering what will go up in the HHGreg building.
Olive Garden over Maggiano's??!!?? BLEH!! Sorry, but I hope that never happens.

Agreed. Yuck. Maggianos is actually a decent place.

This said, I rarely get near a mall. If I have to, I usually go to Cary Town for Dillards or Belk.

If I am feeling adventurous, I go to Crabtree for the Belk there or for a specialty shop like the Apple Store.

Before Apple opened a store at Crabtree, I used to go to Southpoint more often. My chief complaint there is the lack of ease in parking, but they sort of make up for it if I need Nordstrom.

Of the choices, I much prefer Southpoint, but it's a longer haul for me. So I will bite the bullet and go to Crabtree when I need to go to a mall. But I'm pretty picky about when I will go there (never on the weekend. If I can get off of work, I'll go during the day, or sometimes I'll go on a Monday or Tuesday evening after rush hour has died down).

I live 5 minutes from Cary Towne and I never bother going there.

I much prefer Southpoint. I like the outside aspect, easier access in and out and Nordstrom!
