I grew up in Rochester, NY, home of the Wegmans family. I always shopped at Wegmans; when I moved to Raleigh, I was glad to let my new husband do the shopping.
Now, I am thrilled out of my mind a store will be a couple miles away. But I will wait a few days before visiting.
People will probably ask, "What's the big deal?" I think the big deal isn't always so obvious.
Wegmans CARES. They treat their employees and customers well.
You will learn that after a while. It's truly a joy to shop there...but probably a greater joy once the crowds lessen.

I feel like people really are just riding the nostalgia train with their emotions on this stuff. People were saying a lot of the same things when Publix opened in this area. Heck Publix employees always treat us nice when we shop there. The one over in Apex is super friendly, staff goes beyond to help when I've had problems, and even offer to pack everything into my car.
So I really don't get it sorry. It's just another grocery store, just absurdly larger. That's just my opinion.
wow really? let me guess you camped out when Costco opened here too.
My time is more valuable than standing in line just to claim to be one of the first to enter the store.
We went this morning and spent a good amount of time in the store. Getting into the parking deck was an easy in/out. The only backup we encountered was turning in from Wake Forest Rd. Surprising since the store was so crowded. I thought that they had some pretty good prices. Definitely a better selection of certain deli/meat items our family enjoys. And personally, they have one of the best baguettes that I have tasted since being in NC. One of the biggest problems with congestion in the store were people stopping traffic to get pictures or FaceTiming others. Checkout was fairly quick for the line. I don't know that I would travel all the way to Raleigh from western Cary to do my shopping, but once the Morrisville store opens it will be one of the better shopping options.
We got there around 9:45 and left at 11:30. Definitely bought more than we thought we would. The one item we were hoping they would have were New England rolls and they didn't have any. They did say they would be getting some in though.

That's really true. I didn't grow up near one but went to one last year all the time when I was my mother's caregiver. They were really great to her/us with prescription issues, especially when a nausea med was rejected by insurance the first day of her chemo (ugh).
They seem really great to their employees.
LOVE their bakery and heard they sell kimmelweck rolls, so will pick up a bunch when I go...next week. Not a chance I'll be anywhere near there in the next couple of days.
