Anybody know which manufacturers are in use at UNC primary care locations? I can't tell which of the 3 they currently have.

Update: managed to get through. It's Moderna. <happy dance>

Can I ask the advantage of Moderna over the others?

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is one shot so I can see the advantage of requesting that if you don't have much time to take away from work or other duties (also milder side effects). Downside is there's lower efficacy against mild COVID occurrences (the J&J vaccine was very effective with serious COVID cases)

Look folks - just get the damn thing. Who gives a rats a$$ which one it is? It's ALWAYS going to be better than nothing for you AND for anyone else with whom you have contact.

Can we all remember that this ****ing mess has only been around for like one year?

(Sorry if I sound preachy or bitchy. I've got good reason. I'm confident that the regulars of this forum are aware of my personal concerns and personal predjudices.)

I got my first shot at WakeMed today in Raleigh using thier MyChart website to sign up. I would have taken any vaccine available but if you are curious they were administering the Pfizer vaccine. Everyone I kno who had gone through UNC received Moderna.

I agree. I'm in search of Pfizer mostly because I would like my 17 year old to get vaccinated and that's the only one that age can have. And I have to take her to give consent, so....

My dad gave me a lead on the J&J vaccine very close by and I'll get that if it pans out, will post here if it does.

My husband and I as well as several of friends had Moderna with no side effects. I know of 3 people who had pretty significant side effects after their second Pfizer vaccine.

You need hundreds of anecdotes before drawing conclusions. Laws of statistics.

Availability, particularly from the UNC Healthcare system. It requires less stringent cooling than Pfizer, although it may be that Pfizer was overly cautious. For all practical purposes, Pfizer and Moderna are equally efficacious.

Here's why it matters to me... All 3 are effective against severe illness and death, but JnJ is significantly LESS effective than Pfizer and Moderna (66% vs 94/95%). Why would I NOT want the vaccine that gives the most all around protection? So no, I'm not going to just take any old vaccine. I will do my homework and find Moderna or Pfizer. (Which I did. And got Moderna.)
