There is a place on New Bern Ave, I think it's called Franks. (Drawing a blank)

^None of these places are fancy, in fact their entire ambiance is that they have no ambiance. Just good food.

You might also try Joyce's Family Restaurant in F-V, but I'm not sure if they are still open.

Joyce sort of comes and goes.
I think they are in a "goes" mode right now.
I like the greens and fish fry.

I haven't tried it yet, but I hear GREAT things about True Flavors Diner on 55 in Durham.

Chicken Hut in Durham is my ultimate comfort food.

K&W at Cameron Village was our favorite but it has closed.

There is another K&W in Raleigh, off New Bern Avenue. Have been once and it was "ok".

Big Ed's on Falls of Neuse Road would be another favorite.

We haven't been to Pam's Farmhouse in a very long time but it used to be delicious.

I love Elmo's, but haven't been for long enough, I hesitated to say it.
I am glad to see you mention it, poppy.

We ate there pretty often. My wife picked up a lot of takeout plates for her dad when his health started failing.

Griffin’s in North Raleigh was a good place. I loved the old location on Wake Forest Rd. before they moved into the new space.

How about Mama Dips in Chapel Hill? I would call it Southern comfort food. And it's good. I used to love Elmo's in Carrboro. I miss it. I've never been to the one in Durham.

For sure Mama Dips. Real soul food.

I will be glad when the new Italian place goes in Carr Mill Mall. Makes me sad walking by there with Elmo's and Townsend and Bertram both closed on that end. And that big ol' oak tree dying too. They need to cut that down soon before it causes major damage.
