Looking for some suggestions for a comfort/ country style/soul food restaurant. I don't want to start a thread about the best place, just some suggestions for places. Such as your basic blue plate specials.

I previously enjoyed the food at the Gateway Restaurant on Crabtree Blvd near Capital Blvd, but it closed. Another favorite of mine is Watkins Grill on Wake Forest Road. Any other suggestions?

My wife has mentioned Angie's. The menu looks exactly like the type of place we're looking for. We'll go there soon.

You beat me to it - one of my favorite places as well. It seems they know half of the customers in there and always make the other half feel as welcome. The Toot-N-Tell, just down the street, has a good reputation for food, but it felt cold and dark there to me.

It's been a while since I've been there but I remember Metro Diner having a wide variety of comfort food type options like meatloaf, pot pie, fried chicken etc.

Gateway closed? Wow!

Early morning “Big Breakfast” at Biscuitville on Wake Forest Rd. was comfort food for me.

If you want to drive about 45 min, Meadow Village Restaurant has a buffet. Meadow, NC. East of I95. You can combine it with a visit to Hinnant Winery in Pine Level.

I haven’t been to Raleigh in almost two years. I’ve missed a lot.

Backyard BBQ in RTP. (Top notch Soul food, and best Mac n Cheese in the region)
Tramway Diner & Fairview Dairy Bar in Sanford
There is a place on New Bern Ave, I think it's called Franks. (Drawing a blank)

^None of these places are fancy, in fact their entire ambiance is that they have no ambiance. Just good food.

You might also try Joyce's Family Restaurant in F-V, but I'm not sure if they are still open.
